Identity Extended Version: Biggest DVD Screw Job!
#26
I personally think that DVDmig raises some good points about DVD bonus features being something they are not necessarilly as advertised. Too often the "alternate endings" and "deleted scenes" are simply scenes that are a few seconds longer, trimmed off the scene because something didn't work in the shot, or for time constraints. I haven't seen the Identity DVD (saw it in the theater and don't feel an overwhelming need to see it again anytime soon), but if it advertises an alternate ending and what you get is the same ending with just some flash back thrown in, well, I guess I wouldn't be too happy either. But I don't think it's a big screw job, either, as I've seen other DVDs with questionable content in their bonus features section. The sad fact is that most DVDs today are rushed to the market to meet consumer demand, and to get rental copies out fast. If you want good special editions with meatier bonus features, you just may have to wait for the "double dip" version later on. (I am saying this in general. I am not trying to insinuate that Identity will get another release later on, but it seems like many movies get souped up SEs later on). Personally, I don't understand why everybody is dogging DVDmig so harshly in this thread. I can see why he's getting defensive!
