Malcolm X - SE ???
I'll start out by apologizing if this has been covered before, but since I can't figure out how get the search engine to search for "malcolm x", I finally gave up searching through pages of "malcolm in the middle" and "malcolm mcdowell" posts, and decided to start a new thread.
Anybody know anything about the possibility of a Malcolm X SE? I personally think that it is Denzel Washington's most astounding performances and, combine that with the subject matter and that fact that it is a "Spike Lee Joint", and I think it is the recipe for an outstanding SE.
Any info out there?

Probably not what you're looking for but the French (as usual) got a better edition. It actually doesn't seem that much better (which is why I didn' get it). The 2nd disc only has a few extras so didn't seem worth the price.

yeah, but this SE doesn't sound as S as it could be..
there's a 19 minute doc divided into three separate parts and a 14½ minute interview with Spike..
oh...it also has the trailer.
but, still...more than we got..

Why would you want an SE of this? Anyway, I doubt we'll get an SE anytime soon - we're still waiting for R1 releases of Malcolm I - IX. Personally, I'd wait for SEs of the first two before I bother with the tired sequels...

I'd love to see a SE of Malcom X. Personally, I think the film is terribly medicre (why Scorses picked this as One of the Ten Best of the '90's is beyond me). But I find a lot of the behind the scene stuff interesting. I'dlove to see a doc going into Lee accusing Warner Bros. of racism. Him panhandeling to Bill Cosby and Oprah to get more money for the film. His relationship with his father breaking down. And you can't tell me that Lee didn't document a whole bunch of stuff when they went to Mecca.
For all the things I listed above, I can see it would be difficult for them to come out with a SE I found satisfactory.
And I always chuckled at the comment (I don't remember who said it) "If everyone who bought one of those 'X' baseball caps went to see the movie, it would have been one of the biggest box-office hits in history."

I would love to see an SE of this movie. All the matieral Jarmen mentions in his post would make for an interesting re-release. Not to mention all the factual stuff you can add about Malcolm himself.
Hey Criterion are you listening? If Michael Bay can get two movies so can Spike Lee!

Jarmen and Ryo --- Well if you two are in charge, we'll never see a SE of this movie . . . Jarmen want's lots of personal information about Spike and Ryo wants none.

It would be a true SE if they cut out Lee's pretentious "I am Malcolm X" sermon at the end of the film. I do think Denzel was brilliant in the role, and the scene where he's straining to hold back tears when he first meets Elijah Muhammed is very powerful.
