Do you lend out your dvds?

Sorry if this is a repost..did a search and found nothing..will delete if it is.

I USED to lend out dvd's until they'd come back with a scratch or I'd have to ask for my own dvd 32 times before i actually got it back or had to go get it myself.

I'll lend them to only ONE friend now since he has a lot of dvds I like to borrow from him.

Not a chance, unless I'm going with it, and the one holding it, putting it in the player, taking it out, and going straight home with it. I trust no one.

Yeah..I do.. That's part of the reason why I collect DVDs...to turn others on to films I like. I place a mark next to the ones I've loaned in my spreadsheet.

For the most part yes . . . I find that people that are interested in borrowing the movies that I am really protective of (OOP's, expensive sets, etc.) are responsible enough to take care of them. The ones that I'm not worried about (mainstream DVD's that you can pick up anywhere), I don't worry about the ability to replace them. Plus I trust my friends to replace anything that the would break/ruin, etc.

Of course, i have a better "movie watching set up than a vast majority of my friends, so most of the time, they want to watch the movies at my place anyways.

Just to one friend who is also a collector. I know he's careful.

Never. I did it a few times back in the day, but when the person would end up keeping the disc(s) for weeks, for some reason I felt like a dick asking if he was finished with them. Don't want to bother with that anymore.

I'd have no problem lending out to more people...but they aren't careful with my property. I know its just a simple matter of putting a disc in a dvd player....but some people still manage to mess that process up.

Quite often. I like the feeling that I'm expanding other peoples minds.

Yes. I lend DVD's out all the time to family/friends. I haven't had any problems.

Absolutely, family and friends. They lend to me as well. No DVDs were harmed in any transaction.

I do sometimes, but my sister seems to do more often than not. And I always see empty spaces on my shelves, not knowing what is missing.

I have no friends, so nobody ever wants to borrow my stuff.

Thats a big NO from me.

I have the largest collection out of my friends, and they are often tempted.

But if they screw up a disc (especially an OOP one), who's gotta do all the legwork to get the disc back?

Besides, its less complicated just saying no to everyone.

I used to quite often, but it always took forever to get them back. Most of my friends know how protective I am of my DVD's and they take good care of them. I have only had one instance where a case came back dinged up. I just loaned out my Futuruma Volume One to a friend yesterday, but he always takes good care of them. If I don't know somone very well or don't trust them, they never get their hands on my DVD's. They always get offended, but I tell them that I take great care of my movies and one little scratch can ruin the whole disc.

I do. But like an idiot I just recently started making a list of what I had out. Figured I could remember in my head. Now I have no idea where Fast and the Furious, This Is Spinal Tap, or Dressed To Kill are. Most people I lend to are good about giving them back in a timely fashion(I had to buy a case of empty CD/DVD cases so I wouldn't have to loan out the cases for the movie and break up my collection ).

What do you say when a family member wants to borrow a DVD? I don't like lending out anything and this particular sibling has a habit of hanging onto stuff for months if not years. I just know one of these days he's gonna ask to borrow something.

nope...because I cant afford that many body bags. I think it's madness for a real collector to loan out dvds. madness that requires meds. but to each his own....if you dont give a damn about yer discs.....then by all means, pass them out like candy for all I care. good luck.

honestly? I say....smoke more crack or smoke less....whatever it takes for you to not ask me that stupid question again.

people that know me...know better. so nobody will ask. they dont even touch my library. and it's no big deal to them because they understand its MY investment....and mine only.
