Sometimes DVD go OOP in anticipation of a newer and better version coming out.

My McRibs stay, unfortunately, on my McRibs.

Seriously, so far the discussion has focused on manipulated OOPs, designed to squeeze more cash out of the next iteration or release. What about Criterion OOPs? Is that just a matter of print runs and capacity? But that seems hard to believe, since reproducing digital disks can't be that hard??? or is it??? Or maybe they'd need several thousand in any given print run just to get the packaging down to cost???

I have no idea, but the recent flurry over the Tati films makes one wonder about why Criterion would go OOP on films (and what is Salo going for on Ebay, etc???)

Criterion DVDs go out of print for one reason: Criterion loses the rights to produce DVDs of those films. That's the only reason I've heard of so far for each Criterion that's gone out of print.

Shoeshine OOP - Why?

Anyone know why De Sica's "Shoeshine" has gone OOP soon after being released on DVD by Image? Seems kinda strange to pull it out of distribution just a few months after releasing it.
