My understanding of this is a bit muddled, admittedly, but AFAIK, Mumy exited his relationship with Lost In Space after they outed him from involvement in the motion picture.

Frankly, being separated from that abomination known as Lost In Space the movie is a GOOD thing. IMO.

I'm just hoping for a high quality transfer of the complete series in an affordable but durable format.

When I was a kid, this was the show that I could NOT for any reason miss. Even as it got lame and stupid, I stuck with it hoping it wold get better. Oh well. heh I will be getting this set the day it comes out. I have three B-9 robots of varying size here to keep it company.

I didn't really like the first season to be honest, save a few episodes.

The movie was enjoyable, IMO, and I would have loved to see the next two movies they had planned, but I firmly believe the movie could have been much better with Bill's involvement. So, yeah, it was a bad thing.

The first season is my favorite...especially the first half, before it became a Dr. Smith/Robot/Will Only show.

New Line didn't have any respect for the Lost In Space series... they simply wanted to cash in on retro-nostalgia wave that was just starting.

Jonathan Harris (RIP), knew it was going to be a stinkeroo and kept a healthy distance from it. I recall a panel discussion (with the rest of the LIS:series cast) where he said that. And those that DID make a cameo, weren't too thrilled with how the film turned out, but did appreciate the momentary blip in interest in their work on the series.

As a scifi film, LIS was enjoyable... but as a "Lost in Space" movie, it was horrid...absolutely horrid. It had NONE of the charm and strength of the series.

William Hurt's weak, whiney John Robinson pales in comparison to Guy Williams' strong capable leader John Robinson.

While the series' Robinson family portrayed an ideal to strive for...with the women playing a vital role in the scientific part of the mission, the movie simply wallows in and reflects a typical modern day dysfunctional family...not very uplifting.

I guess I never took it too seriously, so that's what I liked.

I wouldn't count that as an official announcement. What probably happened is that DVD Planet got a pre-order sheet, which are usually just predictions about features & price. Then they added that information to the site.

But they list it as coming out in color! I am guessing that is wrong. Fox would not give us a colorized Lost in Space, would they? That would be rediculous! I would expect an official announcement in the next month.

This isn't quite accurate. Harris got offer a bit part (the guy on Earth who assigns Dr. Smith to his duties) and he turned it down. He was quoted as saying "I've never done a bit part, I'm not going to start now."

Yes, he said that too... and that is the quote that he used on numerous occasions. That is the official PR. But during one of his appearances at Chiller Theatre, he did allude to his belief that the movie was not very good.

But was that before or after it was released? From what I hear the original script was very, very good.

It was just around the time that the film was released.

Although movie scripts do undergo alterations during the filming process, the original script wasn't dramatically altered...certainly not enough to make it appreciably better than what we saw on the screen.

There were fake scripts floating around before shooting began. It is possible one of those was mistaken for an early "legitimate" script.
