Canon i470 and i860 printers
Anyone out there using a Canon i470 photo printer for covers, pics, etc? buy.com has it for 129.99 with a $30 e-coupon (which i assume has to be used at buy.com). thinking about this and the new canon i860 which will replace the i850, which should list for $149.
User comments on either of these appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave

Just go for the 950i. I actually went to the Canon Support Store here in Tokyo and had them print the very same picture on several different printers - I COULD see the difference with no difficulty and went ahead and bought the 950i. The Canon Support Store doesn't actually sell the products they manufacture, they are only there for repairs, seminars, demonstrations, etc. which a regular store will not give you!!
Thumbs up for the 950i

while the i950 seems to be the printer of choice among some folks on the forum, there are 2 reasons i'm looking at the i470 and i860. first, the i950 is going to be replaced by the i960 in a month or so and it is getting difficult to find. second, at the reputable places i've found it, it is still $100 more than the i860 (which streets for $149) or $150 more than the i470 (including the "rebates"). for someone who wants to print an occasional cover and does not do a lot of color printing, that's does not seem all that reasonable. then again, i could wait till the end of october for the i960 which amazon lists for $199. . .
so, the question remains whether anyone who has the canon i470 or i860 (or even i850) can provide some feedback on quality, reliability, etc.
thanks,
dave

I have the i850.
I am extremely happy with the photo results from this printer. DVD covers look amazing (so much so, that I have had people look at my collection and try to tell me which covers were printed with my i850, and which are originals....they can't).
The only complaint of heard about this printer is that straight text on plain paper isn't as sharp as some other printers. For me, this isn't really an issue, since I primarily use the printer for photos/dvd covers, etc.

My Canon F20 Scannner and printer combo can come up with the exact quality, using 8.5 X 14 Lexmark photo paper bought at $13.99 plus $7.99 U.P.S. shipping. Staples.com lowest price is H.P. 8.5 x 11 15 sheets for $9.99 plus 6% PA sales tax,Staples don't carry 8.5 x 14 Legal Photo Paper.
Pays to shop online my printer is good for borderless 8.5 x11x14, and x17 DPI maximum 2400 x 1200 DPI. Cover art is being printed at 300 DPI. Bought for $140.29 which connects via USB includes CD software to hookup and produce 4 icons. I threw out the H.P. 932c that didn't offer borderless prints and because WebTV controlled the printers action and speed.

I read that on cnet as well, and it looked like several people refuted that criticism. It seems that the other users may have been using better quality paper . . .
Thanks for the info. I'm going to try to find an i860 at costco, or on sale. . . or maybe a clearance on an i850.
