Not sure if it should get its own thread, but I was just wondering if anyone was lucky enough to find the UE of Phantom of the Opera. I was anticipating this release as much as Family Guy Volume 2, but after going to five stores including Best Buy, Circuit City, and FYE, I came up empty and found no indication of it being out. May just because my city sucks, but did anyone find it?

My copy of Phantom of the Opera shipped yesterday from DVDEmpire, so it has been released.
Has anybody ever seen a silent movie DVD at Bestbuy or Circuit City?

Where'd you order from? I ordered from BestBuy.com but recieved a notice saying it was backordered and wouldn't ship till 9/17. I'll gladly cancel the order if wherever you got it from is shipping that quickly.

Hi Al. I used my old stand-by...Amazon. keep in mind I placed the order on Tuesday. at that time...it said it would take 7 to 13 days to ship...I'm not sure why. turned out quicker than expected...so I dont mind paying the higher price. still...you may want to do a search if you want to go cheaper.
update: it now says 2 to 3 weeks to ship
. you may want to go another route!

I'm confused also. I ordered The Shunned House the same day....and it said 7 to 21 days or something to ship. I was just notified that it shipped tonight. guess it wont be here until Monday now. still it was faster than I expected.

I received a review copy of Phantom on Friday, and I have a problem that I sincerely hope -- for the sake of you guys -- has to do with my equipment.
As you know, there are two versions here: a beautifully restored print of the 1929 version (with a very few scenes taken from a print of lesser quality) and a crappy old print of the 1925 version.
On my machine (Malata 3600), the beautiful print is plagued by blurry, trailing ghost images whenever people are moving fast. I tried all the different video modes: no change. What's more, there's no such blurring evident on the lousy print on the second disc.
I'd appreciate it if whoever gets to look at their copy first checks for this. It's pretty hard to miss.
I have some other qualms -- or at least confusions -- about some of the editorial decisions, but that's another issue.

Ugh, Best Buy is really pushing it. As I said, I ordered it from the website last week and promptly got an email saying it was backordered and wouldn't ship until 9/17. I was fine it with, figuring what's another week? Well, today I get another email saying it's STILL backordered and now it MAY be shipped within the next TWENTY-FOUR days. Needless to say I'm calling later, canceling the order, and just getting it from some place else. What's my best bet, Amazon?

TBH a lot of 'issues' raised over in the HTF forum have had little bearing in my enjoyment or assessment of certain titles so i'm hoping that's the case again.
Apparently Kino will be releasing their own edition of this in the future so if there is a problem now it may be rectified if not by Image(recall product??) then by them.
