I went to Best Buy, Suncoast and various other DVD / Electronic stores and I couldn't find anything on it. I went to Wal-mart the other night and they had it. Odd, indeed.

By the way - anyone else surprised they didn't go with the photoshopped Al Pacino head that was revealed to be the cover-art prior to release? Also noticed that there isn't anything listed on the back as far as special features.

Just watched the whole dvd.
The making of.. is very excellent, but Pacino interview.
Also you get a Poster picture gallery which is cool to see all the posters. None were any better.
The bad thing about the dvd is you have to fast forward at the begining to get past these damn trailers of other dvds from Universal.
Universal if your reading this we like dvd previews, but we'll watch them when we can, not every time we want to watch this movie!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

If the preview of Scarface at the begining is any indication on how the transfer will look on the upcoming anniversary edition. Well it's doesn't look very good IMO. Carlito's Way looked very good however.

I had no problem finding it here in Hawaii. Picked it up from Tower the day of release on sale for $14.99. A bit sparse on features, but a marked improvement in picture quality.

Universal has been the worst culprit of this activity. I absolutely can not stand being forced to sit through previews of other crappy movies they want to sell me every time I watch a DVD. I thought that practice had officially died out with VHS tapes. No one on earth appreciates it except perhaps Universal marketing executives. Enough already! There should be a law for all DVD's forbidding any unrelated previews from being encoded to the disc. It should be previews for other films in the same series, or on certain notable occassions, those that highlight the other work of the director or major star, and nothing else. I don't want to watch 3 unrelated trailers every time I pop in my Carlito's Way DVD. It stands to reason that if I did, I would have selected that movie instead.

I really hate Universal. Not just for this, but for many other things. They are, without a doubt, the most incompetent studio. This has been proven over and over.
Amen to that. The latest for me has to be that stupid "Rappers reflect on Scarface and how it influenced them" special feature on the upcoming Scarface Anniversary DVD. Who the hell cares? Only Universal would think up a special feature that dumb. And how it influenced them? Influenced them how, exactly? To forge an illegal drug empire and chainsaw people? When Warner Bros. and MGM put together their documentaries they seek out interviews with the people directly involved with the film's conception and production, and noted film historians and critics - Universal goes to Ja Rule and Jay-Z. Way to be on top of things, Universal Home Video.

after no luck at best buy, circuit city, target, borders, or any of the other big dvd depots, i found a copy today at wal-mart. oddly, there were no copies on the shelf, i found mine hidden away in a cardboard box, covered by newspaper near the register. strange........ regardless, i was very happy to find it after looking for it since tuesday. i would really like to know what the hell happened with this release, basically nobody has it. this cannot be good for anybody involved..............

I'm just glad they decided against the photoshopped Pacino cover.

As for the film - great transfer.

I just picked up Carlito's Way : CE from Wal-Mart today for $14.99. I haven't had a chance to look at the extras but the transfer is excellent! I only hope Scarfaces' transfer will be as perfect.

I checked my local best buy in Sugar Land, TX and they said they will not get it in till 9/30. So hopefully BB will run some kind of special with Scarface and Carlito's Way.

Yeah the DD 5.1 sound was no big deal.
So I'm sure the SCARFACE dvd will be the same.
Which I've heard all 3 laserdisc and VHS copies and the sound wasn't nothing to get excited about then.
And laserdisc is supposed to have better sound than dvd, so I'm not expecting nothing great.

tonymontana -

i'm pretty sure that best buy will be selling the new carlito's way as a 2 pack with mobsters on the 30'th. they will be packaged together, forcing you to pick up mobsters with it. so you may want to look elsewhere. go to wallmart............

Actually, this is a REALLY interesting (and funny) documentary, and this coming from someone who can't stand rap.

I haven't seen this in San Diego. I'll probably just order it from DDD.

having just received two new Universal releases (with forced trailers), i'd just like to say that it works for me to hit stop as the disc is loading up and then press menu.. then it takes me directly to the main menu and there are no forced trailers that have to be viewed or fast-forwarded past.

it obviously suck bigtime that they put forced trailers you can't get past easily, but at least there's a way.. on my Toshiba DVD player anyway.

For some reason, the Mission Valley Best Buy in San Diego has the release date of 9/30 for this DVD. Pretty weird considering some of you have already purchaced your copies at other B&M's.
