On VHS I got Trainspotting and The Rock in widescreen. For DVD is was Fight Club and Being John Malcovich(I bought a DVD player when I found out there wouldn't be a widescreen Fight Club VHS).

I was too young too get into LD's, and I never bought tapes cause I think I instinctivly knew something better was coming, I mean how many times have you watched one of your videos to the point where it started to noticibly lose video quality,

anyway, my first DVD was WS, Donnie Darko in '02

I believe that would be the Anchor Bay Heathers VHS before I started with DVD. After I got into DVD, I have no idea. I didn't have a player when I started buying b/c my roommate did, but I think it was a PVed copy of Gladiator from Movie Gallery.

My first was The Rocky Horror Picture Show on VHS back in '98.

I didn't get into DVD until 2000, with my first purchase being Detroit Rock City in Widescreen...

my ex and I got a laserdisc player for Christmas of 95, and i believe or first LDs were "While You Sleeping" , "Tommy Boy", and "Die Hard". I think the first widescreen Vhs was Maniac Cop, I come in Peace, Dawn of the Dead, and Hellraiser. those are all anchor bay stuff that they licensed from Elite and some other LD co. I got all those for like 20 dollars, i couldn't afford the LDs

My first was the VHS of Braveheart. Before that, I didn't even know that movies were even released in widescreen. Once I saw it, and realized how the viewing public gets screwed with full frame, I started searching for widescreen with every VHS purchase or rental (which was almost impossible at that time), and the lack of finding my favorite movies in widescreen led me to DVD.

I think mine was also Lawrence of Arabia. All my VHS are boxed up so I could be mistaken though.

The Silence of the Lambs on DVD. That would be fall 1999. I have no idea what Criterion is by then. It's also my first DVD.
