Life of Brian for me.

I can probably recite each and every Criterion I owned, and name the month (and year, of course) when each was purchased. Life of Brian was September 2001.

The Passion of Joan of Arc -- The very first disc I ever bought and one of the primary reasons why I converted from VHS to DVD.

Chasing Amy again... more as a Kevin Smith fan than a DVD fan. But it really opened my eyes to the versatility of DVD, not just Criterion.

Silence of the Lambs for me, which was the 3rd DVD I purchased (after pre-ordering the Army of Darkness 2-disc set and ordering the A Nightmare on Elm Street box). I think I ordered it from reel.com, but I'm not sure.

Do Criterion laserdiscs count?

That is going back many years. First one I bought full retail was Picnic at Hanging Rock.

Silence of the Lambs - one of my first DVD's even. I had never watched the film, didn't know what a Criterion was and the list goes on and on...

Bought the movie, loved it and found out about two months later that they was no longer makin' them - and I had no idea why.

Hard Boiled. And a few days later I got This Is Spinal Tap. Good thing too since both DVDs were OOP a few months later.

I bought three at the same time:

Grand Illusion (Renoir/1937)
The Passion of Joan of Arc (Dreyer/1928)
The Unbearable Lightness of Being (Kaufman/1988)

My count currently stands at 100 (with 10 on order, and 9 on my Wish List).

1st: Robocop
2nd: Chasing Amy

The only two Criterions in my collection

I remember wanting Robocop CC because of the uncut version, but the Best Buy i worked at only ever got 1 at a time in. I also remember saving a good $10 on it with employee discount...which is odd for a DVD that was only $35.

Not sure if that applies here, as he's dissing a movie (one that most people seem to agree as being terrible) and not the actual topic of this thread. If he came in and said, "Who cares?! Just watch your DVDs!" then he'd be threadcrapping, if I understand correctly. Then again, I never do.

Anyway, who cares?! Just watch your DVDs!

My first Criterion was Rushmore. Eventhough I paid something like $32 for it back in the day, it was worth it.
