I'd definitely give it a rent. After all, I did buy Swept Away thinking "how bad could it be?".

Yes it should - and its release date should be the week of Thanksgiving, with a quote saying 'Turkey of the Year' and the caption should say "Gobble, Gobble."

Maybe Gigli is the "surprise annoucement" from Rhino (producers of the MST3K DVDs).

I'd check this out as a rental.

That's a good question. Of course, if you had asked two years ago, it would have been Star Wars: Episode I, although we knew it was coming. TPM would be the answer to what most recent release took the longest to hit DVD after the VHS.

As for the most recent release that hasn't yet come to DVD, I have no idea. There were some movies that were released only on DIVX at first but later released on "open" DVD by Disney and Fox, I think. Most of those have since come to DVD though.

The only one that comes to mind that still hasn't made it is Ed Wood, but there has to be something more recent-like 1996 or 1997 or so.

"Actually, it's pronounced Gigli; it rhymes with 'really.'"

Yikes. I will pass on seeing this film...whether it be on DVD or any other format. Maybe this line would be more apt: "Actually, it's pronounced flap; it rhymes with crap."
