graphically, every other ad-mat design they came up with looked amateurish to me.

Uh-huh...I'll pick this up along with X-Men 1.5 since I don't have that already. I guess I'll sell the first set.

I like when they do this, anything that makes Widescreen stand out clearly from FF is a good thing.

I think a lot of times, the buyers are those who don't peruse boards like these or any of the DVD websites out there. They have no idea there are two versions of the movie and simply grab the first one off the shelf, only later to discover they have the widescreen or P&S version they didn't want.
On the other hand, I am aware of dual releases and always check to make sure which one I'm getting, so I don't want a large banner proclaiming widescreen or fullscreen taking up a large percentage of the cover art.

I too wish they would use the teaser art for the DVD but then again, they don't ask for my opinion.

The only official confirmation I'm aware of so far is the Australian region 4 DVD locked in for October 29. I believe the Japanese region 2 is set for mid-September, while the European region 2 is now due early November. No word on the US region 1 set yet, but rumours abound that there'll be an announcement in the next week or so...
