Criterion in November? Could be!
Full credit for this find goes to Butterfly Jeb on the CCF. The rumor seems quite credble, and if all is true, October's amazing lineup has been toppled.
The website www.cnl.com (C&L Internet Club) has several interesting items listed under Home Vision/Criterion, with a release date for November 18. They are the following:
Alice in Wonderland (unknown, perhas the 1933 version)
Cure (most likely Kiyoshi Kurosawa's film)
La Strada (Federico Fellini's breakthrough classic)
Maurice (Merchant/Ivory film)
Naked Lunch (David Cronenburg film)
Pale Flower (Masahiro Shinoda film...Shinoda directed Double Suicide, available from Criterion)
Quartet (Merchant/Ivory)
Richard III (Laurence Olivier version)
The Rules of the Game (Jean Renoir's classic)
Opinions?

Renoir's Rules of the Game/La Règle du jeu is my most eagerly anticipated Criterion title. Period. A truly wonderful early Xmas gift.
I'm excited about La Strada, too. Lukewarm about the releases of Richard III, Maurice, Cure, Naked Lunch. Underwhelmed by the rest.
Truly awesome news.
Oh, and BTW, it's Buttery Jeb.

Maurice is part of the Merchant-Ivory schedule of titles being released by Home Vision (see http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hreadid=300008) so most of these may be Home Vision releases, not Criterions.

Rules of the Game is near the top of my list of movies to see, if just to see if it is as good as fans and critics say it is.
If this is true, I'll be renting it through Netflix.

Damn you, Criterion! Damn you to hell....for making my bank account dwindle to nothing.

So does anyone know if Naked Lunch will be a Criterion release or a Home Vision release??

I always took it that:
1) No one gets naked in the film
2) He expected to be served lunch
Then again, I could be wrong...

I e- mailed Jon Mulvaney of Criterion if La Strada or Richard III will be available in November the reply was:
"I'm afraid I cannot discuss upcoming titles that have not been
officially
announced."
does this mean that these titles are upcoming?
