The Ring: Unrated Edition?
Over on http://www.darkhorizons.com/news.htm, he mentions some US DVD release dates:
"Some US disc dates have just come through - "Dreamcatcher" on 9/30, "The Ring: Unrated Editon" on 10/7, "Hulk" on 10/28, "Legally Blonde II" on 11/4, "X2" on 11/25, "Uptown Girls" on 12/2, "Bad Boys II" on 12/9/03, "Seabiscuit" on 12/16, "American Wedding" on 12/30, and "Once Upon a Time in Mexico" on 1/20/04."
What caught my attention was The Ring: Unrated Edition on 10/7.
Has anyone else heard of this? I think it's horsecrap, myself.

Very interesting, to be sure! Gore Verbinski has always maintained that the theatrical cut was his director's cut. Although this might explain the absence of features on the first release...saving them up for this? Hmm.
Perhaps this will contain the (rumored?) Chris Cooper scenes?

Let's hope that this is for the US version which I wasn't very impressed with. If there's a director's cut of it I'd be very interested in it, especially if there will be some actual special features on it this time around.

I didn't look at it closely for I had a new factory wrapped DVD from buying online, for my trading friends at DVDeXchange here at DVDtalk.

I contacted Dreamworks concerning this issue and received this reply:
Not at this time. We're always looking at our titles and discussing what people responded to most about the film and what materials would make sense for each release.
Then somewhere along the way, a rumor starts!

If this was a legitimate release, I think this site as well as other major DVD sites would have heard about it by now. They made this with a PG-13 rating in mind so I doubt that there would really be that much added anyway (if unrated does indeed mean more imagery as opposed to plot additions). As mentioned, the only thing I can think of to add would be the Chris Cooper scenes. I thought the movie was fine without them but wouldn't mind seeing them sometime.
