Plus, with the original series, there are a lot of casual fans who will want specific episodes (Space Seed, Doomsday Machine, The Menagerie) but don't want the entire series. I haven't bought any of the TNG sets, but would have bought a "Best of Both Worlds" disc and probably a handful of others.
I guess i'm one of those. I was going to start a new thread of for this question but it kinda fits with this topic. Does anyone know if they released the episode "Daggers of the Mind"(i believe that is the name of the ep., it was the one that south park did the parody for with "Roger Ebert should eat less fatty foods" or something like that). I love DS9 and if i ever can find them cheap enough, i plan on getting them, but with the original series there is only a handful i really want. Which seems to be the general feeling i have for most of the shows i enjoy when it comes to the first few seasons, Simpsons, Married with Children, Seinfeld, to name a few. But usually the third or fourth seasons i really start loving every episode.

I've been waiting YEARS for the season sets. I'd always figured they'd eventually be released in 2006 to coincide with the 40th anniversary of TREK.

Actually

The title is actually called, "Dagger of the Mind", not "Daggers of the Mind", it was actually a pretty cool episode. I worked it all out last night, and this is what it would be:

Season 1- would be an 8 Disc SET!!!!!!!!!(Disc 8 would be "City on the Edge of Forever and Operation: Annihilate!)

Season 2- Would be a 7 Disc Set!!!!!!!

Season 3- Would be a 6 Disc Set!!!!!

This is what it would be, if there were no special features included on the discs.

Yeah - but WHEN is the key? 2005? 06? Someday soon?

Fortunatly I've been getting my Trek fix through freedvds.com, so my 8 or 9 sets havent cost me a dime. I'll have no problems going with the double dip on this one.

New update. Tvshowsondvd.com is reporting that they will be released next year. This comes from ads that Paramont placed in several magazines advertising TNG & DS9 sets. In the lower left hand corner of the ad it reads:

COMING THROUGHOUT 2004
Star Trek And
Star Trek Voyager On DVD
Available In
Individual Season
Box Sets.

Edited to fix url.

they can probably release TOS sets faster than say Voyager because the remastering is pretty much done already - I don't own any of TOS discs, but are they 5.1 mastered? If not, I would think that's all they have to do (even though they were all mono).

I purposely avoided buying the individual discs because I knew Paramount would wanna milk this franchise for all its worth - Lets just hope they throw in as many extras as they can.

At least for TOS there is so much "extra" material it shouldn't take long to compile it.

Be nice to see this before Voyager. It would be interesting to see the numbers of Voy sets sold.

Cool. Maybe they'll plan a region 1 release around the same time.

The packaging is confusing. What is the thing ini the middle supposed to be? It looks like a plastic shell. This won't neccesarily be the same in the US release roight?

Sure beats being a Star Wars fan when it comes to avaialblity :-) I have the whole TOS series already so i'm sure I'll pass on the sets. Would be interested in the extras though. (if any)
