Greetings from Tromaville!

Hello all,

Chris Lanphear here from Troma Films. Should anyone wanna talk Troma DVD or DVD in general, you'll find me around here. Just wanted to make proper introductions.

Remember, Toxie Loves You!

BigPete 08-02-03 03:34 PM

Welcome to the neighborhood. How about another one of those "all DVDs for $.25" sale? ;)

Chris Lanphear 08-02-03 03:37 PM

Are you kidding? The last one we had damn near killed us. ;)

KTIK 08-02-03 04:15 PM

How about releasing more Toxic Crusaders episodes on DVD.

Chris Lanphear 08-02-03 04:43 PM

We have tentative plans to release a box set of all 13 Toxic Crusaders episodes next year. :)

Sounds great, thanks!

Chris Lanphear 08-02-03 04:54 PM

No problem. Are there any other questions I can answer regarding Troma DVDs, past, present or future?

fuzzbox 08-02-03 06:05 PM

any chance of releasing "Student Confidential" on DVD, or do you even still hold rights to it?

-Jason (who ordered during the .25 sale, but never received anything :-( )

Chris Lanphear 08-02-03 06:13 PM

Sorry, we no longer own distribution rights for STUDENT CONFIDENTIAL.

I'm very sorry to hear that you ordered during the 25 cent sale and never received your order. During the time of that sale, I was not employed by Troma and participated as thousands of others did. It was a complete fiasco. I hope you try us again!

Hi Chirs,

I've bought from Troma's on-line store several time and the one problem I had was handled quickly by Millie. (Who I understand is no longer there.)

I've been tempted to order again several times over the last year or so, but I haven't. The reason? Your shipping charges are outrageous! ($8.00 for the 1st DVD, $1.50 for each one after.) Any deal is killed by the shipping costs. I really think you should reconsider this.

I became a Troma fan by ordering a couple DVDs from one of your sales (they were $4 each, not a quarter, but still a great deal.) As I said, I've bought about a dozen Troma DVDs. If I had to pay $9.50 shipping to purchase my first pair, I would have passed.

We get frequent input (and some complaints) from fans regarding our shipping prices. What it comes down to is this: Troma Entertainment is an incredibly small company. The $8.00 shipping charge for the first item is a requirement for us, and covers not only shipping but materials and the Tromite laborors who pack the items. Believe me, just for piece of mind I wish we could afford to charge less than we do, but we can't. Luckily, the shipping charge does end up being worth its weight in Tromatic deals. Check out this comparison of some of our most popular titles:

From the Troma Chopping Maul:
Chopper Chicks in Zombietown [DVD] $6.99
Surf Nazis Must Die: [Unrated Director’s Cut DVD] $6.99
Sgt. Kabukiman NYPD [Unrated Director’s Cut DVD] $8.99
THE TOX BOX [DVD] $25.00
Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV [Unrated 2 Disc Director’s Cut DVD] $19.99
Cannibal! The Musical [DVD] $6.99
Tromeo & Juliet [Unrated Director’s Cut DVD] $8.99
Squeeze Play [DVD] $6.99
Total: $90.93, plus $23.00 shipping and handling

Same movies, buying directly from Amazon: $188.70, plus $10.90 shipping and handling. And you don't get a Troma binder. Or other free goodies we throw in for people who support Troma by buying so many things directly from us. Plus, if you were to buy the TOX BOX now, you'd also get two select DVDs free. Find any retailer that can come close to even matching that! :D

Bottom line is that the more you buy, the more you save. Of course, that doesn't help you if all you want is a copy of KILLER CONDOM to call your own. All gloating aside, though, I can understand that some people may still not want to buy from us directly through our studio store. There are options, though:

Troma @ Amazon Store (direct): http://www.amazon.com/shops/troma/
Troma @ Half.com (direct): http://half.ebay.com/shops/shops.jsp?seller_id=719600

Buying from either of these two shops is still supporting Troma, and the shipping charges are considerably less. Hopefully this helps. :)

Greetings from Tromaville!

1) Our all-time best-seller is the Bill Rebane classic, CROAKED: FROG MONSTER FROM HELL. (Only kidding, it's THE TOXIC AVENGER.)

2) We've just released on 2-disc DVD CITIZEN TOXIE: THE TOXIC AVENGER IV. (Check the review here.) But further than that, who knows. There are ideas for a TOXIE 5, but no plans (or financing) yet. Our next in-house production will be the chicken-zombie-fast-food-thriller POULTRYGEIST.

3) You would be referring to Gabe Friedman, the supervising editor of TERROR FIRMER and CITIZEN TOXIE. I'll pass on your kind words. :D

Is there going to be another Toxie Box Set with all of the movies instead of just 1,2, and 3? And how did they make that baby in Combat Shock?

There aren't any plans to produce another Tox Box, other than the current set which includes THE TOXIC AVENGER PARTS I, II, III and TOXIC CRUSADERS: THE MOVIE.

And how did they make that baby in Combat Shock?
The director, Buddy Giovanazzo, gave Ralph Cordero a hundred smackers and he made the nuclear baby, even though shots of the baby were never in the original script. The baby was a puppet operated from below the cradle.

It's awesome having you on the board! I'm a huge Troma fan.

My question is really rather silly. Let's say a couple of friends and I got together and made a rock bottom budget film, everything financed and all rights owned by ourselves. And although it was in no way passable as a mainstream movie, might appeal to fans of Troma....what's the chances of Troma getting behind said film and producing special feature packed DVDs to get it out there and seen by the public? I'd really like to get together and make a film just for Troma. And helping produce a special edition DVD for it would be a dream come true.

Troma has been known to promote like-minded individuals who've made their feature film dreams come true, including the forthcoming ZOMBIEGEDDON, MEAT FOR SATAN'S ICEBOX and many others. All of these films Lloyd Kaufman has appeared in and we've promoted on the website.

Distribution, though, is an entirely different matter. That involves contracts and rights and all that stuff....which is what would need to happen in order for Troma to put out a DVD of your movie. And even though we own over 1000 movies (many of which LK describes as "goat s***"), even we pass on more films than we pick up. Not to mention, we have a hard time distributing ourselves out of a paper bag, no thanks to Schlockbuster and the like.

One alternative I might suggest for you, though, is the TromaDance Film Festival. Every year, we screen tons of bleeding-edge, truly independent feature and short films concurrent with Sundance in Park City, Utah. There are many other fine alternative festivals as well, such as Slamdance, Nodance, Lapdance, etc. This is certainly a place where your film could get seen, noticed, and potentially distributed by a much better distributor than us, like IndieDVD, Synapse, Image, etc.

All you can (and should) do at this point is make your movie. Now. However you can. Get your movie in the can, and then see where things take you. :D

Hey,

Any plans on a Toxic Crusaders collection? I mean, you guys released the movie so you might as well.

Read the thread. The question has already been asked AND answered.

Revoltor 08-03-03 06:48 AM

Ack. I thought I read it all carefully.

Well, now that I know, Excellent!

Glad you had fun. Which Borders was it at? And I'm sure LK would love to hear from you: [email protected].
