How is "Versus" compared to these movies? Should I rent it? IS it that good that it is worth a blind buy?
I'd say it's definitely worth a blind buy and much better than those two movies. I think it's worth having in your collection.

Is the 1 disc directors cut the same as the 2 disc set, except without the 2nd disc obviously? Or are there other changes to it?

I have an import copy of the movie, but wouldn't mind getting one with 5.1 audio, but I don't really want the 2nd disc.

Looks to be the same cut minus the 2nd disc of supplements.

mine shipped today too. Its my first order with DDD, so hope it all goes well. Their estimated arrival of between 8/15 and 8/20 seems like a bit much though, I hope it comes sooner then that.

I saw this flick in a local comic book store (PLUG: Tate's Comics & Toys & Video) that also specializes in Japanese anime, cinema and a variety of cult films. I liked the cover, turned it over to read what it was about and what do I see? Japanese (Chinese? Mandarin? Korean?)writing everywhere! So I had no idea what the flick was about. Wanted to come home and read about it, but forgot the name of the flick.

Must do more research...

I wasn't too impressed with the movie myself after finally seeing it, seemed too long, didn't mind the thin plot but the action just wasn't enough to make up for it.

Got the special edition in the mail today from Digital Eyes (paid for first class shipping). White keepcase, but the second disc is just in a seperate sleeve which is kinda annoying. Comes with an insert that just has the chapter list and some ads for more dvds on the back of it, as well as a registration card. Time to check out the movie

found the 2 disc in FYE yesterday

Pretty good job by Media Blasters. The color is a little off in some scenes(the light blue jail uniforms look gray) but the picture has been cleaned up big time.

Thanks for that...though it is disappointing..maybe it's just me but with discs like 'Evil Dead BOTD' and the David Lynch.com 'Short Films & Eraserhead' i'm always paranoid i end up adding loads of scratches on removing the discs and it seems with this i've yet another one to contend with...why they couldn't just fit a plastic flip-type insert with a hub is beyond me.

I also got my two disc set today (have seen it before, however). Versus isn't even in the same realm as a Takashi Miike film, Dead or Alive included. I love Miike with a passion, though, and can't wait for a R1 release of Ichi The Killer (not sure if it'll happen, but I could see Tokyo Shock doing it later down the line).

Versus is a fun, really cheesy and, most importantly, STUPID movie. The plot is ludicrous, but the performances are fun and it's got a funny sense of humor and style. I enjoy it!

I'm sort of disappointed in the two disc set, frankly ... not because of the content, but because of the packaging. Tokyo Shock opted to put the second disc in a paper sleeve, rather than having a two-tray case ... poor form

I got mine from aznfilms yesterday. Packaging-wise, it was a double disappointment. First, the second disc in the sleeve thing. Second, I paid the extra for the movie poster and it came folded 4 times, shoved into a dvd case-sized envelope.

I found the movie is delirious - good or bad, depends on a few things. You have to watch it with the right people (or in the right mood) and turn up the volume!

I found myself trapped in a baby shower party so I started playing the movie to help out the other unfortunate husbands We didn't get to play it loud though and the constant expressions of disapproval from the ladies didn't help. Once the house was cleared, I watched it again and had a blast!

Why bother and wait for a R1 release? Go buy the double disc R2 PAL release, it's well worth it. That is if you have a region free player - which, if you're fan of Japanese films like Dead or Alive / Ichi the Killer and so on, than you probably do.

XploitedCinema.com has the double disc Ichi . Well worth adding.

The Dutch 2-disc set is really nice. I can't imagine an R1 set being that nice, and I still can't see it being released uncut here.

Not to thread hijack, but on a side note, I was looking through Brit magazing Bizzare (I think) at Borders, and there was a full page ad for the UK R2 Ichi. Straaaaaaaange. No mention that it's cut in the ad, though. For shame!

Yes..cut by about 3 minutes i believe but what it has going for it is the inclusion of the Bey Logan commentary which was actually recorded for the Dutch 2 disc release only for it to not appear once it was finally released.

i got my order from aznfilms yesterday. i was so disappointed with their packing. what's the point of offering a collector item such a one-sheet movie poster, only to fold it up flat into eighths? i could've just gotten the 2-disc elsewhere for cheaper. they were too stingy to send the poster in a separate tube.

I sent them an email and they said that the posters came from Media Blaster already folded. They're trying to get replacement posters now but I'm not holding my breath.

I actually spoke to one of the guys from Media-Blasters at Otakon last week and he told me indeed they are releasing a Special Edition uncut Region 1 DVD of Ichi The Killer. He said it should be out around October or so. I even picked up the theatrical poster for Ichi The killer from them when I was there too.

hi,

i bought the uncut dutch 2-disc ichi the killer dvd a couple of months ago and even though it missed the commentary, i was amazed to see the netherlands get a dvd that problaby is the best one available in the world, and that never happens here!

i don't really know about the japanese dvd, but ours even has english subs, so it's a great disc for fans worldwide...

the funny thing is, last week i looked into the bargain section of a shop in my town, and guess what was there... an uncut 1-disc ichi the killer dvd... with the commentary listed on the back!!!

talking about strange... maybe i will pick that one up too!

and to stay on-topic, i will also buy the 2-disc versus.

kind regards from holland,

george
