Is Time-Life the only place that is offering this?

Out of curiosity, how many of you have seen the movie that What's Happening is loosely based on, Cooley High? It is one of my all time faves and really is a great movie. It is much heavier on the drama side, though. I've seen the DVD on sale for $10 and it would make a great addition to anyone's library.

Ha! I think it is soo funny that this thread has more posts than the ones on more popular fare. Hopefully all of the purchases will show them there is a want for Seasons 2&3.

Sam

I'd pick up Season II and III in a second...
Not too sure I would ever buy 'What's Happening Now' though. I have some of them on tape, and they just didn't work.

In case anyone is wondering about the cast and their current whereabouts:

- Ernest Thomas is a fashion designer in LA
- Fred Berry died in October. He was on Star Dates and significantly lost weight (he once registered in at 360 pounds); he was also heavily into preaching
- Danielle Spencer is a veterinarian
- Haywood Nelson is doing writing and behind-the-scenes stuff for entertainment
- Shirley Hemphill died of kidney failure in 1999
- Mabel King died of diabetes in 1999
- The guy who played the soda shop owner Rob has been seen on films and TV recently
- The guy who played the father died in 1991; his last film appearance was New Jack City, I believe

For those interested you can catch the guys during the end credits of Dickie Roberts. Sad to hear about Shirley and Mama passing.

It seems Fred Berry threatened to leave the show if he didn't get more money, and Haywood Nelson said the cast had a lot less creative control over the show.

But it's not unlike other spinoff series - Three's a Crowd sucked, too.

Just heard that as well. It was good to see him on the Dickie Roberts end credits.

I heard about that last night. Very sad news.

More sad news: I e-mailed Time-Life to ask about seasons 2 and 3 of What's Happening, and they said they currently don't have any plans to release them. Hopefully, they will someday.

Damn, that's too bad about the next seasons. I had gathered that they were selling pretty well from all the backorders that were constantly showing up on their site. I really enjoyed the S1 set. Good memories.

I just got my set last night and though I've seen most of the episodes, I laughed like I haven't in a LONG time. The cut scenes that the DVDs showed at the end were so funny, esp. when a cheerleader asks Rerun to join them again. He does a few cheers and then Dee runs and cries "Earthquake." I freakin' died.

That said, I'm hoping all three seasons are released as some of the best episodes are NOT on the Season 1 set, particularly the dance contest and Gong Show episodes.

For now. But www.tvshowsondvd.com is reporting that they will be available everywhere else on Feb 3rd.

Thanks, but I already got mine from Time. I just wish we'd get the rest now.

Any advantages/disadvantages by getting Time-Life's version over the Street version?

^Should be the same set of discs. Just more expensive through time life.
