DVD lens cleaners

I've had my DVD player for about 4 years. It's a region free MP3 playing beast, and I need to clean the lens. The image is starting to get crappy. I've never cleaned it before. any suggestions on what i should buy to clean the lens?

Got a CD Player cleaner at home? That'll do the job just fine.

DVD Player cleaners usually have a bit of video on them to test clarity, and a couple of audio exercises. You could get either, cheap, in a K-Mart or wherever for about five bucks.

How do lens cleaners work?
I ask because my PS2 no longer plays CD Roms (It still plays DVD-Roms). Sony has offered to clean & fix it for free (nice of them, to be sure), but if all I really need is a lens cleaner, I'll try that.

PS I know that this topic should really be in Hardware, not DVD Talk forum, so feel free to move it, Mr Moderator.

I found the ones with the most brushes....at many points on the discs...work best. also essential is a can of compressed air. I blow my housing out every few days. just be sure to do it right...or you'll end up spraying moisture into the player. thats not good.

I thought there were ones tht look just like a CD. I never had any idea how they worked, and until recently, never had a need for one

I have a Poweredge from ratshack I bought for about $18, it has video and audio tweaking instrucions. Just follow the instructions while your getting your lens cleaned by the disc, with the cat whiskers on the one side of the metal edge, disc art on the otherside. In Meow Humble Opinion. LOL

Thanks for the links, Poet. They didn't work exactly right, but they led me to the right place. It sounds like a big deal and it involves remoi=ving the warrantee sticker. Since Sony will fix it for free, I'll take them up on that offer, instead.
