To the original poster....I understand what you're saying. I used to be a little tempted but I bought widescreen TV and it changes your whole outlook on things. I really hated watching a widescreen movie on my 4:3 27" TV..........I don't care what everyone says, it feels like your watching a 13" screen. Now that I have a widescreen TV I can really enjoy all my DVD's to their fullest. Widescreen is GOOD!

Nope. I buy plenty of 4:3 movies, but most of those that's the OAR. I have a few (Kubrick movies, Miracle Mile, Star 80, and possibly Haunted) that were shown in theaters as widescreen and are only available on DVD in P & S--most of those were purchased because I didn't notice (other than the Kubricks). The only one I have in P & S that's available in WS is American Pie 2, and that's only because it was free (and not worth a penny more!)

I know what you are speaking of.
Yes, sometimes fullscreen is better and you see LESS in widescreen. Much less.

what about a movie that was originally 1.33:1 but got chopped to a widescreen release?
one that comes to mind recently: In Praise of Love R1 release is widescreen. no way i'm going to get that.

I'd sooner hot carl Ron Jeremy after he endured a six-week regimen of eating nothing but cabbage and eschewing bathing before I buy a full-screen DVD.

I bought a movie in full screen... it burned me up because it was by accident... knowing this I could only get into about 15 minutes of the movie... had to shut it down, and return it for a wide screen.... I just said it pixilated and wanted a replacement at walmart... then just got another movie... the right one this time...
full screen? What the heck is wrong with you people?
tell me one good thing about full screen? just one?

Her curtains are nice, but they're not exactly my focal point in that scene.
Folks are a little irony-deprived around here sometimes.

"full screen? What the heck is wrong with you people?

Well, buying somebody a full-screen dvd is a hell of a practical joke.
Seriously, if F&F is your favorite movie, why buy a fullscreen dvd so you can watch about 50% of it. It's like saying the Mona Lisa is your favorite piece of art, and then cutting off both sides on your poster, just cause you love it so much.

I have actually been hoping someone would create one so we could compile a list. I only have come across one by accident thusfar (contained both versions and on a whim I checked expecting it to show less not more.. nice surprise).

Of course, the thread would have to be "sticky".
I recently saw someone mention the Heather Graham movie "Killing Me Softly", and I seem to recall some excitement over "Doc Hollywood". And I'll have to check out this version of "Mishief"; let's see, I think I was 14 when I saw that one... nuff said.

However, lots of movies are shot in 1.33:1 (notably Kubirick's films and lots of older/foreign films) and then matted down to 1.85:1 or even 2.35:1. That means, you're actually seeing less of the film in a widescreen presentation. I definitely still use my 16:9 TV's stretch modes when watching FF stuff, but I'd rather see what the director originally intended. [/B][/QUOTE]

I got All About Eve & They Day The Earth Stood Still and eventhough I have a widescreen tv I always use the "Panorama" stretch mode for 4x3 OAR material and it looks pretty good

Are we all sure that a widescreen version of Mischief would crop/matte the image? That would be a shame...
I haven't seen it in years and years. I remember it was eye-popping when I saw it way back when. Hubba hubba.
For those who want a refresher course, go here: IFILM. ADULTS ONLY, of course.
