Life on Earth Attenborough

I am a huge Attenborough fan and recently watched Life on Earth on cassettes from the local library. Needless to say I really enjoyed the series and was poking around and found that it is going to be released in the UK on September 1 on DVD.
Does anyone have any more details about this release? It also seems to be priced quite reasonably. Heres where I found it:

what I would like to know is if i can play a region 2 dvd on a US TV? I have unlocked my DVD player so it is region free. does PAL/NTSC make a difference for DVD? Anyway, I highly recommend the series to nature fans, even though it is 25 years old.

It certainly does make a difference. If you do not have a PAL compatible DVD AND television set, you are in for a disappointment. Watching NTSC on PAL usually results in a Black and White snowy picture at best, and sever rolling and no sound as well at worst. I imagine watching PAL on NTSC gear it is essentially no different.

This has nothing to do with Region compatibility by the way...that is a separate issue.

thanks for the info. I looked around some more and found some DVD players that convert pal disks so they can play on a NTSC tv. It looks like that is the easiest way to go and one can be had for around $100. I doubt this older attenborough stuff will be released here on DVD, so I may end up investing in one of these players, there are probably other region 2 only things i am interested in anyway. any input from other attenborough fans? i can't get enough of this nature stuff.

Yes...fantastic stuff as i've said in other similar themed threads.
If you are going along the Region 2 route and if you don't have it already then you almost certainly should pick up 'The David Attenborough Boxset' it has 'The Life Of Birds' 'Trials Of Life' and 'Life In The Freezer' series included in the package.
I expect you already own the excellent 'Life Of Mammals' series and 'The Blue Planet' series?....if not then pick these up without any hesitation..THOROUGHLY recommended.
I have to admit i wasn't aware of a DVD release of 'Life On Earth' happening soon so thanks for that....i'm hoping the excellent documentary 'David Attenborough: A Life On Air' that was screened fairly recently about his life in broadcasting etc..will be released in some form or another at some point in the future.

? ? ? ? ? ? ?

...if you have a fifteen-years-old PAL telly it does all of that, yes...

...if your (PAL) TV is of more recent vintage, 99 times out of a hundred it will give you a perfectly satisfying, non-rolling, non-snowy, brilliantly colored picture and clean sound...

. . . . . .

Correct but I made no mention of the age of the TV as none was made in the original post....some people still have old televisions which is why I mentioned what would happen if your are NOT PAL compatible.

Almost all televisions bought these days are both by default, but not always. If your TV is not PAL compatible then it can be the newest thing on the block but it WON'T play PAL!!! It has to be PAL compatible, regardless of its age.

thanks for the information. Can anyone suggest a good DVD player that will allow me to play region 2 on my ntsc tv. i've found a few but it seems there is an issue with playing anamorphic region 2 pal discs on a ntsc tv. does anyone know anything about this player:

http://www.220-electronics.com/dvd/international.htm

it mentions that this player does not have that problem.

I don't actually own any attenborough stuff on dvd, but i have seen quite a bit of it and want to start a collection.

Hey DocumentaryNut, is this the same box set?
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000ADXEB/

The cover of this release mentions "12 Programs" which seems to match the info you linked to.

that's awesome, looks like it is the same thing, at a much better price, heh. Thanks for pointing that out. It seems a lot of the older attenborough stuff is being released on DVD.
