Technically, there are 7 seasons, Season 4 had 2 parts, both consisting of 8 episodes, which is the length of all the other regular seasons. For some reason they didn't just call it 5 and go on with it, they had to make stuff complicated.....

I too will be quite disappointed if all of the seasons of this are not released.

I certainly hope they finish out the series. I remember reading somewhere that OZ actually outsold The Sopranos on DVD.

But it wouldn't surprise me if they stopped releasing DVDs just because the show was no longer in production. HBO is a division of Time-Warner, as is DC Comics. They've pulled the same crap with the trade paperbacks of their comic books series. Just ask any fan of Starman or Hitman.

Good point Josh...

As for the high price others have mentioned, I kinda agree as well. They do need to lower the price point a bit...then I think they would sell through a lot better and faster. If you paid 60 bucks then that's pretty high...I only paid $40 for each of my sets...but yeah, 30-40 I think is a good range...heck, sopranos are like 80 bucks though...and most of us bought those.

I remember Tom Fontana saying that the Oz Season 1 DVD in its first week outsold the Sopranos S1 set in its first week. That might be what you're referring to.

But I think the problem is that the Oz S2 set, facing a lot more competition from other TV sets, didn't sell very well.

I bought both after never having seen the show. I absolutely loved the first season, but frankly, I thought the second season suffered a huge dropoff in quality. I thought S2 was contrived and silly for the most part.

Here is the address on the HBO site to contact HBO:

I am also a new fan of Oz. I haven't even heard of this show until I saw a commercial on tv for season 1. After watching it, I found it for $40 shipped on Half.com, so I took a chance. After watching episode 1, I was hooked. I must have watched the entire first season in 2 days. The wait until season 2 drove me crazy. The day season 2 came out, I was outside the store waiting for them to open. Again, I finished the entire season in 2 days. And again, the wait continues...

I will e-mail HBO also. Thanks for the address.

Dean

I purchased the first two seasons of Oz used. It was cool catching up on episodes I may have missed. But, especially when viewing the second season, I began to wonder whether or not it was worth buying future sets. I found little desire to sit down and watch the episodes regularly (After a long day of work, watching multiple episodes of a prison drama wasn't appealing).

I decided to sell the sets and haven't missed them. I hope you fans are allowed to complete your collection, but I can now see how these sets may be a tough sell.

I wonder...

Could the thinking be that they'll abandon the DVD sets of OZ because the series is no longer airing, as they view the DVD releases as something that encourages people to subscribe to HBO? So once the series ends, the corporate mentality is to abandon the releases for whatever new thing is around the corner.

Out of sight, out of mind.

It woudln't surprise me at all, as I mentioned earlier that's the thought process that DC Comics uses, and let us not forget that Warners is more than willing to cut off its nose to spite its face. It was content to sit by and let TNT sink the Babylon 5 spin-off "Crusade." And this at a time when the other Sci-Fi franchises -- Trek, X-Files, and Star Wars -- were floundering. Warners could've had the next big franchise but blew it.

Well, they released Larry Sanders S1 long after the series stopped airing. My thinking is that like the Sanders set, the Oz S2 set didn't sell very well, so it'll be dropped because there's not a big enough market for it.

No one with any authority has said that, by the way. It was conjecture on my part, especially since the video sets for Oz have disappeared from HBO's online store.

The sets haven't disappeared from the HBO online store. You can find them by either clicking on "Oz store" or on "Video/DVD Store".

I easily found the OZ dvds for sale there. There is an OZ store still.

Oops. My bad. I didn't actually go to the site looking for it, I was (mis)quoting this from memory.

Sorry about the confusion.

I think some of you might be needlessly worrying about OZ sales, because it seems to be doing just fine. And with HBO's "one per year" release format, I imagine we'll probably be seeing an OZ S3 set in January of next year. Which means an announcement will probably come in a month or two.

I have s1 but still haven't bought s2. I want it...but damn they are expensive. I think they do need to lower the price on them.

Thanks for the sales stats, joshualane. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed--and my seasons 1 and 2 sets unopened--for the announcement of season 3. The way I see it, if they release season 3, they'll probably release the other 3 too. Odd, though, the extended fourth season. Wonder what they'll do about that one.

And, yes, they are too expensive, especially for only 8 episodes.
