The Future of Battle of the Planets DVDs
Hi all,
I attended the San Diego Comic-Con this weekend. Rhinovideo had a booth there, and I asked one of its representatives if they were planning on releasing any more "Battle of the Planets" volumes. The representative told me that later in the year Rhino will be releasing a BOTP box set that would include the next 24 episodes of BOTP and their corresponding Gatchaman episodes. In essence, he explained the set would include vols. 7-12 of "BOTP" (remember that each Rhino volume/disc contained two episodes).
I asked him if he planned on re-releasing the first six volumes as a set, and he said Rhino would do that only AFTER they've finished releasing the entire series. Boy! That means a re-release of the first 6 volumes could be a LONG ways away.
That's all the news I have to report.

I also didn't get a clear sense of how the box set would be packaged. I asked if "box set" meant 6 dvd cases placed inside a box (a la James Bond collection) or if it meant 6 discs placed inside a unique package (a la Band of Brothers or ST:TNG). The representative wasn't exactly sure. He only assured me that more BOTP DVDs were on the way later this year.
He also told me of two versions of the box set: with or without an attached BOTP action figure (I believe it was Mark).

You know, twenty-plus years ago, I would've killed for "Battle of the Planets" action figures.
I remember watching this religiously while I was in the first or second grade. Giant robots, space ships, super heroes, monsters... what more could a seven year-old want?

This is the best thing news to come along since Berg Katse threw himself into the volcano! Of course, discovering that my home planet had exploded wasn't a big help, but what can an immortal alien overlord do??

As for the G-Force episodes, I heard they were dropping them from someone with some connections at Rhino. I haven't heard anything about the packaging.

G-force eps
Those episodes were too stupid for even me to watch. I couldn't get past the horrible musak, the horrible dubbing, and just all of it. Never did finish them. At least we get the Kagaku Ninjatai episodes with subs. I have the import box sets of all the eps, but the subs are in Engrish, and a bit hard to follow at times. Hopefully all 85 BOTP eps will be released.
