I would guess Matrix. Among old schoolers, its probably one of the 5 free dvds you got when you bought a dvd player. space jam, batman and robin, and a few others.

I would guess either one of the versions of LOTR: FOTR, or Matrix.

Simply put, it will be probably be whichever DVD also holds the record for all-time best seller. There is the potential that it may be the title that set that record 3 or 4 iterations back since there is a lot of "old money" in the forum, but otherwise i'd bet we match the trend.

The Matrix, LOTR:FOTR, Shrek, Spider-man, any of the big, big sellers. I'd say The Matrix would probably have the broadest appeal. It's also the oldest.

I'm guessing Terminator 2 is also pretty popular here.

Have you "actually" polled EVERY member or are you just guessing.

I have both Terminators, so my more "popular" guess is one of those two DVDs.

Of the DVDs mentioned here so far, the only one I own is Batman & Robin.

And I didn't get any free DVDs with my DVD player. Harumph!

I don't actually own a DVD player yet, but I do have 300 discs (which I watch on a PS2, my roomate's DVD player, or my now non-working DVD-ROM).

I would say Gladiator (ick), The Matrix, Terminator, or Fellowship of the Ring.

I actually think tha tmost people did get the Matrix free with their DVD player. I know I did.

It's a brilliant move by WB.

It's one of the first movies I bought years ago, though I haven't even opened it yet! Along with Armageddon. *shudder*

According to Guzzlefish, this is the top 5 owned movies...

1 The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring 2,447
2 The Matrix 1,505
3 Fight Club 1,436
4 Spider-Man 1,378
5 Pulp Fiction 1,338

Now, does LOTR combine the theatrical and EE numbers?? Since alot of people on here have both.

Matrix was also one of those movies people bought to see what DVD was capable.

That and how most players couldn't handle it.

I'm surprised I haven't worn the disc out already though.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. What couldn't the players handle?

I think it had something to do with it being one of the first dual layer discs.

First gen players couldn't hand the layer change.

A web search would provide more concrete answers.

The follow the white rabbit feature on the Matrix gave some players fits if I remembert correctly.

Another disc that was given out free with a lot of players was Lost in Space but I doubt if that title sold many copies so the numbers sold + the amount given free at the time is probably very small.

Until this post there wasn't a dvd mentioned that I own. So far just Fight Club and Pulp Fiction from the ones that has been mentioned. Otherwise I don't have a desire to own any of them.

No way my collection will ever include Matrix.

I would think T2 - LOTR - Toy Story - Monsters Inc. or either Star Wars.
