I'm still surprised at how many ppl own Fight Club. This isn't a movie that appeals to everyone. To most, this is a movie you either love or hate....usually very few ppl in the middle.

I would say:

Disney's - The Little Mermaid (either the original or bootleg copy)
Star Trek 2: Wrath of Kahn
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone
Spiderman

I would think T2 - LOTR - Toy Story - Monsters Inc. or either Star Wars.
That's what makes these threads so interesting... Personally, I don't own, nor want to own, T2 - Monster's Inc - Star Wars - And I gave my ex my Toy Story discs... I also don't own Fight Club, Gladiator, Shrek, Spider-Man, either Harry Potter, any Disney (other than Fantasia), etc...

But I do own The Matrix and LOTR... I'd say those Guzzlefish numbers are fairly correct and guess that ~ 75% of DVDTalkers own one or both of those films.

I don't have LOTR in my collection, nor do I want it. I would guess Fight Club or maybe Memento would be highly common.

Heh heh, good one.

My first guess was The Matrix.
It was actually IIRC the first DVD I bought.

I remember when I got my player I was able to choose 2 free disks from a list. I choose Goodfellas and Bladerunner.

That guzzlefish looks about right, although it seems like the LOTR numbers are inflated by doubling up theatrical/extended.

Now, does LOTR combine the theatrical and EE numbers?? Since alot of people on here have both.
Choose the "Most Collected Movie Editions" stat:

1 The Matrix 1,457
2 Fight Club (Special Edition) 1,265
3 Gladiator (2-Disc Set) 1,265
4 Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones (Widescreen; Special Edition... 1,178
5 The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (Extended Cut; Widesc... 1,130
6 Spider-Man (Special Edition 2-Disc Set; Widescreen Version) 1,098
7 Pulp Fiction (Collector's Edition) 1,077
8 Seven (Platinum 2-Disc Set) 1,077
9 Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back 1,018
10 Minority Report (Widescreen) 1,011
11 The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (Widescreen Version; ... 971

LOTR still comes in at #5 and #11, not bad.

EDIT: To add LOTR Theatrical at #11

About the Guzzlefish #s, you gotta remember that the average Joe with 1-50 DVDs isn't gonna enter his/her collection into that. Only hardcore DVD fans (i.e. ppl on this forum) would do that.

Even so, i think guzzlefish is a pretty good representation of movies around here. Although that jay and silent bob thing is a bit of a head scratcher.

I bet South Park Season 1 is up there. Common who didn't pick it up from mediaplay for $9.99.

There have been @ two dozen movies thrown out here, and I own exactly one of them (Pulp Fiction).

I don't know if there is a correlation with the collections here, but I see the Austin Powers and American Pie films in almost every DVD Aficionado list I look at.

Out of these I have all but Star Wars (I'll never have that in MY collection) and the extended Lord of the Rings (my ADD keeps me from watching a movie that long).

I'd have to guess "My Schoolmate, The Barbarian"! Ha, ha!

Where do you people get all of those little smiley icons anyway?! I was going to insert a laughing one here, but I don't know how to, or where to get them!

Anyway, anybody besides me even seen this DVD?

Can;t believe that after years of hanging out here, the shere mention of Good Burger makes me chuckle classic .. can you imagine it will come out specially packed with a label "as being mentioned 100.000 times on DVDtalk.com) ...

back to topic .. I wonder how high "Lost in Space" would be up there ... yes, it was a crap movie and I usually just watch the first 30 minutes and the lesbian scene between Heather and Lacey (wait, that only happens in my head .. oopps.. sorry) ... but that thing came with pretty much every DVD player !!!

I have to agree with Matrix .. was the first movie i watched in a theater WANTING to have the DVD when I got out (had no player or DVD back then) ... I have an R1 and R2 version now ...

LOTR .. easily best markeiting to get people to buy both sets .. and , oh .. by the way a HIGHLY successflull and great movie ...

once we have nailed down a top 20 .. we should do a poll .. just here .. for us .. see what comes out

cheers

When "The Matrix" came out, alot of the dvd players were unable to read the disc.

I would have to go with The Matrix followed by LOTR, then followed by LOTR Extended Version.

According to DVDAF:

7810 own The Matrix
4633 own LOTR
4494 own LOTR Extended Version

I bought it
