The best show on TV returns to DVD as 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment presents 24: The Complete Second on September 23rd. The seven-disc box set will feature all twenty-four season two episodes in anamorphic widescreen (1.78:1) and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround. Unlike extras-light first season set however, this collection will be loaded out the wazoo with bonus materials. Look for cast & crew audio commentaries on select episodes, more than 44 deleted scenes, alternate endings, a two-part "making of an episode" documentary, and a CTU featurette. Retail will be $69.98.

Digitalbits has this reported:
They've also announced 24: Season Two for release on 8/27 (SRP $69.98). The 7-disc set will include anamorphic widescreen video, Dolby Digital 5.1 audio, forty-four deleted scenes and alternate ending with optional commentary (no kidding), three featurettes (On the Button: The Destruction of CTU, The Making of an Episode: Production and The Making of an Episode: Post-Production), two multi-angle scenes studies and audio commentary on six episodes (one per disc). Additionally, all of the deleted scenes and alternate endings will be optionally viewable during the episodes they're taken from via seamless branching.
So it looks like the R1 will be the same release as the R2.
Now if Fox would re-release Season 1 in R1 with the R2 version material and features, I'd be happy

The cover art looks very cool--I'm definitely picking this set up. 24 is one of the few shows that I actually still watch on TV along with The Sopranos, The Shield, and Angel(no more Buffy!). I just hope they have a play-all feature on the discs.

Why don't they release it on the 24th?

I just got this e-mail from Amazon. Don't know what it means, per se, but just thought I'd share it:
Also, on their website, instead of the pre-order option, it now reads:
It still has the features/product details listed. And a release date of September 23, 2003.

P.S. [rant]Want to throw a quick shout-out to blakwngbrd who tried to let everyone know about this new development as well, but unfortunately had his thread closed. I mean, it makes sense, no point in having 2 threads open with the same info. But to be fair to him, he posted it literally a couple seconds before I did, and didn't know. Searching for "24" is impossible. I searched for "season" and had to sift thru 3 pages or so before I found it again. Sorry, rambling.[/rant]
Greetings from Amazon.com.
We've recently learned from our supplier that the item you requested to be notified about, 24 - Season Two, will not be available in the foreseeable future.

My guess is what happened was when they first listed this, it was at a price of $44.95, but the MSRP on these discs is $69.95, so they guessed wrong and are now cancelling all the current preorders so you will forced to rebuy it at a higher price.

I only had a few minutes to post, so I scanned the first page of the forum and didn't see anything about it (and, as you said, I couldn't search for "24"). Just one quick correction, I'm a "she"

sounds like this was supposed to be a 6-discer from the get-go but ran into problems fitting everything on those 6 discs. meanwhile places like amazon either got unoffical word from the studio or took it upon themselves to assume and place a price to the item. in the meantime a 7th disc is added to the set to make sure they keep all the planned extras, the retail is jacked up, and amazon is screwing themselves with the lower preorder price.
