Identity: 9/2/03

From, as usual, DavisDVD:

Ten strangers become stranded at a desert motel by a violent storm and quickly find themselves being murdered one by one. They soon realize that, if they are to survive, they’ll have to uncover the secret that has brought them all together.

Columbia, R, 90 min, $27.94, 9.02.03

Video: Anamorphic widescreen (1.85:1) and fullscreen (1.33:1) transfers

Audio: English (Dolby Digital 5.1), French (DD 2.0)

Subtitles: English, French

Supplements: Audio commentary with director James Mangold; Exclusive branched version of film with alternative ending and additional scene (widescreen version only); deleted scenes with director's commentary; storyboard comparisons; STARZ special: On the Set of Identity; filmographies; theatrical trailer
And of course we have the obligatory cover change. "Great theatrical poster? Why would we use that? Call in the GIANT HEAD squad! And make sure everyone's GIANT HEAD look appropriately frightened."

That's one incredibly ugly cover.

Seriously, it's bloody awful.

It's harsh.

It's badly rendered.

It makes me not want to get the film.

It makes the film look much worse than it actually is.

ARE YOU READING THIS, COLUMBIA????

...-breathes-...

Deleted scenes and a commentary from Mangold... the two things I was hoping for!

Well, there were three, but since they CHANGED TO THAT FUGLY COVER....

You know, even though the cover isnt all that great, the movie was really solid and well thought out, I really liked it.

Although I thought the movie was holier than the pope, I enjoyed it, and think it deserves better than that cover. The cover's more likely to give me nightmares than the film. AHHHHHHH...they're combining into ONE HUGE HEAD!!!

Worst cover ever.

And I agree. Kevin Spacey is in this movie? Sweet!

Ugh...

Second best movie of the year ( behind Dark Blue ). Thumbs up to the Mangold commentary and deleted scenes. The cover isn't that bad. I think the faces morphing and joining into one face is very reflective of the film. Also, the ghostly color of the faces ties into the film. I shouldn't say anymore for fear of ruining the movie for others. Grade : A -

I cant wait to get this film... I agree that the cover does tie into the theme of the film if you have seen it but I do like the original poster better. Time for coverart replacement!

A bloody handprint, but the fingers were actually silhouettes. Tied into the whole sense of identity (individual handprint) with the characters connected (fingers of the same hand)... it is truly a wonderful, wonderful poster, which makes the DVD cover bastardization even worse.

Check one of my above posts for the original poster.

It seems to me at least that the whole big head syndrome actually makes all these DVDs look the same. Isn't the idea behind marketing to make your product stand out?

Sure the details are different, but at a glance it's the same old crap.

May be a spoiler if you think hard enough. I'll put spoiler tags just incase.

Spoiler:
That cover actually gives away a lot. Kinda clever...

I don't think it's too bad.

Yes, it's just a cover.

It's a glaringly horrid cover, though, which makes the film look like some cheap DTV thriller.

I don't really like the cover either, but I agree with ProjectMayhem that it's kinda clever. What I really want to know, though, is what the branching alternate ending is, cause I didn't really like the ending too much.

I HAVE seen the film, which is why I'm so very, very, VERY insulted by the cover.

"Ooh! Let's be clever and
Spoiler:
meld the faces since they're all the same person!
It'll be SO CLEVER!"

Yes.

In bizarro world...
