suggest a blind buy for me!

OK...im craving a blind buy. its fun for me when people suggest a movie that i have never seen. here is what i am wanting:

1. nothing slow (not that i dont like them just not right now), ala boondock saints

2. good story line that makes you think, ala donnie darko

3. doesnt have to be american movie, ala the celebration

4. no crappy acting or cheesy scripts (unless its on purpose), ala orange county :D (i do love jack black though)

the examples used were all blind buys that would fall into each catergory. take a look at my collection in the sign. below (guzzlefish) to see if i have your prescribed medicine.

thanks! i will comment on whatever i pick asap.

100 Girls ($10.25 shipped at DDD)

All About My Mother

Synopsis for 100 Girls:

When a blackout knocks out an elevator in a college girl's dorm, Matthew (Jonathan Tucker) and a mystery girl connect carnally and emotionally. But he's left in the dark as to her true identity. He's got 100 suspects, and a slew of hilarious schemes to worm his way into the hearts and panty drawers of each and every one of them!

100 Girls is a laugh-a-minute teen comedy caper that fills the screen with a bevy of sizzling coeds as they fall prey to a love struck Freshman on a mission to find his soul mate... any devious way he can!
All About My Mother is a Spanish film by Pedro Almodovar, which won best foreign picture in 2000. I noticed you have Open Your Eyes & Y Tu Mama Tambien, this could be another good Spanish film for you.

Body Double, Femme Fatale or almost anything from Brian DePalma

Sessa17 06-10-03 04:08 PM

Let's see. Check these out if you don't own any of them. . .

Rabit Proof Fence - It's a foreign movie, maybe the best released all year. Personally I didn't find it slow & being based on a true story it makes you think of what the people went through. IT also has a great soundtrack by I think Peter Gabriel. A perfect blind buy which is how I saw the movie, plus it has some nice extras.

Femme Fatale - First 20-25 minutes, no dialogue & some of the best 20-25 minutes I own on DVD. The movie does drag a bit towards the end though & Banderas is a little cheesy in it, but Romijn doesn't get the credit she deserves for this movie.

The Royale Tenenbaums - If you don't own this, this is THE movie you should blind buy. Brilliant performances by the entire cast, never a slow boring moment. IT may even make you think.

Memento - I'm sure you own this already if your a DVD fan. IT's everything you described as what you are looking for.

Kids in the Hall: Braincandy - IMO one of the single funniest movies every made. The comedic performances are brilliant & the writing is very intelligent. In a way the movie will make you think a bit as it's also a satire on the dumb consumer society that we live in & how we all just want to feel happy & good all the time no matter what the cost.

Also including imo the smartest lesbian scene since it has to do with the plot (instead of just putting one in just for the guys with no point)

Run Lola Run
Its not slow (i.e. the aforementioned running), its makes you think (about the choices you make and how you are affected by them), its not American (its German), and its not cheesy (very good acting and directing with original script).

I may have to rent Femme Fatale sometime. It looked pretty cheesy in the trailers though...

That comes out in aug in america, but if you are not in the mood for a 8 min rape and a few graphic beatings, you may want to avoid this one.
