Chopper
Hedwing and the Angry inch
Wet Hot American Summer

The Royal Tennebaums wasn't slow??

I was going to recommend Cube as well, but I think for some people it drags at times.

Vidocq probably fits what you are looking for, but it might be difficult to find as a rental.

Jacob's Ladder didn't come to mind until I saw it in my own listing but I believe this fits everything you are looking for and should be easy to find.

Others that come to mind
Zero Effect
Proof of Life

"O", which is a remake of Shakespeare's Othello. Very good film. $13.67 from DDD. Has Julia Stiles, Josh Hartnet, Mekhi Phifer, and Martin Sheen.

Well, if you haven't seen it already, I'd highly recommend the David Lynch masterpiece, Mulholland Dr.

OK...im craving a blind buy. its fun for me when people suggest a movie that i have never seen. here is what i am wanting:

1. nothing slow (not that i dont like them just not right now), ala boondock saints

2. good story line that makes you think, ala donnie darko

3. doesnt have to be american movie, ala the celebration

4. no crappy acting or cheesy scripts (unless its on purpose), ala orange county :D (i do love jack black though)

the examples used were all blind buys that would fall into each catergory. take a look at my collection in the sign. below (guzzlefish) to see if i have your prescribed medicine.

thanks! i will comment on whatever i pick asap.

i think any porn movie fits the bill...

AOD 06-11-03 03:46 AM

Army of Darkness:Boomstick Edition (or the R3 if you can, better source material, or even the 2-disc LE. They are a bargain on fleabay nowadays).

Equilibrium (I personally REALLY enjoyed this).

Any of the Stargate:SG-1 box sets (fun, fun, and more fun)

And if you can swing it, the Nightmare on Elm St. box set (well done).

Best of luck.

i got a ton of suggestions that i have been reading about. thanks guys and girls. i have seen many suggested movies and almsot all are pretty good. i havenet seen about 20 so i narrowed it down to 10 that sounded good to me so far.

these have made the first cut :D

in no order: amores perros, all about my mother, rabbit proof fence, dressed to kill, mulholland drive, dog soldiers, dangerous lives of altar boys, igby goes down, flirting, and...

...zero effect or cube. this has not been decided yet.

thanks.

I'd also say Below isn't too bad an option as a 'blind buy' etc.

C Roberts 06-11-03 10:42 AM

I'll second Brotherhood of the Wolf. :)

I wouldn't second it. It was okay but nothing special at all and some parts were just plain laughable. Does that help? -smile-

By far the best films on your shortlist are Amores Perros and Mulholland Drive, without a doubt.

steebo777 06-11-03 12:03 PM

Mulholland Dr. all the way
Or if you're in the mood for some nice Lynch-istic TV: Twin Peaks Season 1. So good, and yet soooo cheap!

billy9215 06-11-03 12:29 PM

The Third Man.
Leon the Professional (uncut)
Midnight Run
The Limey

Don't know if you would consider blind but..

yes, this may not be the "point" of the film, just warning him.

Caliking 06-11-03 02:15 PM

Okay....I have 4 movies I am going to get for sure...I need one more.
The four for sures are: The Third Man, Mulholland Dr., Amores Perros, and All About My Mother

Vote on one of the following or add another title

A) Rabbit Proof Fence
B) Dressed To Kill
C) The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys
D) Zero Effect
E) Flirting

or vote for your other.

Thaks for your help

davidlynchfan 06-11-03 02:29 PM

Some more Bling buy suggestions that might fit Cal's-liking;

The 4th Man
Assault on Precinct 13
Body Double
Rapid Fire

and i'll take B) Dressed to Kill out of that final cut pack.

Rypro 525 06-11-03 02:32 PM

Get Dressed to Kill (be sure to watch the x rated/unrated version.)

Dragonslayer 06-11-03 02:33 PM

The only two on the above list that I know about are "Dressed To Kill" & "Flirting" which was one of my earlier suggestions. "Dressed To Kill" is a very good De Palma film with some action, blood, & nudity & sex & humor. "Flirting" is a rather unknown film about coming of age set in Australia. (It is an Australian film) It has a special place in my heart because I can identify with the main characters a lot. It is about romance & loss.

breaux124 06-11-03 03:01 PM

Probably already seen, but suggest anyway: Office Space

Since you like Jack Black:
High Fidelity
Saving Silverman

Joe Dirt - Comedy
Leon, The Professional - Action
Rounders - Drama (?)
