I agree... anyone who expects a DVD to exist on the market in its current form indefinitely is delusional. Reducing Gladiator to 1 disc and (presumably) reducing the MSRP makes sense -- it makes the DVD appeal to those who don't want all the 'bells and whistles'. And it also allows Dreamworks to sneak it in as a 'new release' at Best Buy that week and get some extra promotion.
And, let's be realistic... there's like 5 million copies of the 2-disc DVD out there. It's not hard to find now, nor will it be for years. If anyone wants it, they can find it easily.

I guess I will be the only one here who will sell my 2-disc on Ebay for $65.00 (as I did with Fight Club 2-disc), and be happy with the 1 disc version because I don't care about the extras.
Actually, I better start stocking up on these to sell down the road--- easy money.

Mine's for sale if anyone wants it. Pristine, only watched 1/2 a time. Couldn't even finish it.
Still, nice to have the good version, I guess.
Too bad Dreamworks is learning Fox's bad habits. You'd think Spielberg would know better.

I don't understand why you are so upset. If you are a big fan of the movie you already have the 2 disc set.
It's a little flawed to think that everyone saw the movie when it first came out.
Not that I'm trying to start a fight or anything. I think most people who want this movie, have it. I'm just trying to say it's not so cut and dry.

Well, it's too early to complain now. There are a tonne of copies out there. Go buy one if you want it. Get 'em while they're still under $50.

I think the reason why there are so many "who cares?" responses is the extreme overreaction of the original poster. If the title of this thread was "another disturbing trend", I suspect there would be a lot fewer people chiming in to say "so what".
My first response was: "what, have you been saving up your money for three years and now that you can almost afford it it's going out of print?" Face it, anyone who likes this film already owns it. What IS the big deal?

Yeah. You're pretty retarded if you're a fan of the movie and don't have the DVD by now. What concerns me is that what if the disk you have gets messed up in some unknown way and you can't replace it. I guess as long as the movie is WS anamorphic, blah blah blah we'll still be happy.

I picked up my 2 disk set the day it came out. It's one of the better 2 disk sets out there, and it's a shame to see it go. It's a shame that anyone who is just now getting into DVD may have a hard time finding the 2 disk set.
On the other hand, I have my copy, and anyone who is just now getting into DVD must clearly be a slacker.

This was my first DVD ever (a gift from my sister) and I love it. I also managed to snag a barely used copy of the 2-disc Fight Club SE on ebay, which I also love. These "diet" editions of movies are a crappy trend for people who start collecting DVDs later though. That's why I had to go to ebay for that copy of Fight Club; I wasn't buying DVDs when it came out.

i don't have it yet because my roommate already does. my mindset has been "either buy Gladiator even though i already have access to it or buy _________ (insert dvd title here)?" each time i've gotten the other dvd. i don't own Saving Private Ryan either for the same reason. i'm going to pick up Gladiator soon since i heard or the re-issue.
i would much rather see this re-issue practice instead of the reversewhen a barebones release is followed by the more expensive special edition a year or two later (ex: Black Hawk Down and presumably Ocean's 11). nothing chaps my ass more than spending another $20-$30 on an expanded edition of something i already bought. if studios are going to do this at least have the decency to let people know as New Line did with the LOTR releases.
