In his explanation to Neo, Morpheus explained that there was much that they didn't know, including who fired first, or even why there was a war between man and machine. Second Renaissance clearly shows who fired first and why; hence the feeling that there is no more enigma, no more mystery.

I am probably close to alone on this, but I loved the last one, Peter Chung's Matriculated. The combination of CG and 2-D hand-drawn was done so well, the trippy visuals were intriguing and beautiful to look at, and most surprisingly I actually did feel something for the machine left alone at the end. I'm glad he came into the production process late and was given free reign to express his original vision.
