I have the director's cut. This is from Amazon.com...

Over an hour of haunting bonus footage, extra scenes and lost performances, including: Ashley Judd's shocking courtroom scene, Warden Jones' dismembered head, Denis Leary's never-before-seen performance, the controversial shot of reporter Downey's hand wound, and an intense alternate ending

I haven't watched it in a while but I'd say it's definitely worth picking up. Your first dvd player huh? Better late than never. Welcome to DVDTalk!

Director's Cut - Trimark - not anamorphic - lots of extra scenes

Oliver Stone Collection - WB - anamorphic - theatrical cut

Both are very very worth owning (together) ... and a must for fans of the film.

I don't have it but the R2/R4 are both DC and anamorphic (AR for these two is 1.78:1 )

Then your version is cropped since the oar according to dvdmg.com is 2:35:1.

Well sir, the fact that you've turned to DVDTalk is clearly a sign of an intelligent mind. This is the best place to turn to for the DVD beginner.

I might suggest reading the FAQ for Newcomers - it'll explain a lot more about the DVDs that you will grow to love...

As for the deleted scenes for Natural Born Killers - there are a few, and as stated, they're pretty interesting, featuring Denis Leary, Ashley Judd and the stalwarts of any classic, Wrestling's The Barbarian Brothers.

From the IMDb's Alternate Versions -

there's a lenghty courtroom sequence showing part of Mickey and Mallory's trial; the prosecutor Wanda Bisbing (Rachel Ticotin) is interviewed by Wayne Gale and then we see witness Grace Mulberry (Ashley Judd) being cross examined by Mickey.
Spoiler:
The murder of Grace's brother is shown, then Mickey stabs and kills Grace with a pencil on the witness stand.

Wayne Gale interviews the Hun Brothers, two body builders who have had their
Spoiler:
legs sawn off by Mickey and Mallory. A flashback reveals that the brothers have been spared by Mickey and Mallory because they've been recognized as great admirers of their work

the scene where psychiatrist Dr. Rheingold (Steven Wright) is interviewed by Wayne Gale is longer and features additional dialogue;

a new scenes features Denis Leary as a prison inmate walking up and down his cell while delivering a frenzied and funny monologue about Mickey and Mallory

Here's the link, which also goes into detail about what is featured in the Director's Cut

The movie is definitely not 2.35:1 and never has been. Although Stone is fond of the wider ratio for most movies, he chose 1.85:1 for this one because it allowed him to mix and match film and video formats easier. The movie uses a combination of 35mm, 16mm, 8mm, and video.

But being 1.85:1 then 1.78:1 would be cropped, right?

Strange that the R2 would be cropped and anamorphic while R1 is OAR and not anamorphic

The R2 and R4 both come with keepcases instead of snappers. I have the R4 and it's the same as the trimark vhs edition except for the NIN video which is sadly missing

I would get the Director's Cut as it is the same thing as the one in the Stone Collection except unrated with three minutes of extra footage in the movie. While this normally doesn't make a difference in a movie, I honestly feel it does make one in this case.

The difference between 1.85:1 and 1.78:1 is a few scan-lines. It's negligible. If indeed the disc is really 1.78:1, most likely the mattes were lifted a fraction. This is not something to be concerned about unless you are anal-retentive about the mathematical numbers.

I have the Columbia House version, which I think is the Oliver Stone collection, and as far as I can remember, it has most if not all of those deleted scenes (not as part of the movie, but on the disk).
