Worst DVD On Your Shelf
I read somewhere that everyone, no matter how macho or how geeky they are, has at least one DVD or VHS in their collection that you just look at and go... "huh?" Like the guy that has every copy of Rambo, Rocky, Terminator... and then, off to one side, a copy of Steel Magnolias. (Yes, Rocky_Stallone, I am talking to you... ;))
Anyway, I guess we all have some DVD on our shelves that we got as a gift, or because it was on sale, that we look back on now and say... "Huh. What is that doing there?" One of the interesting things about being married is that you end up merging you and your mate's extremely eclectic collections. For example, I now have a DVD copy of the Ben Affleck - Gwenyth Paltrow film Bounce... on DVD, so it will last forever... So what is the worst DVD on your shelf, and how did it get there? |
Crocodile Dundee in LA
It was a joke gift from a friend. He tells people that I am a huge Dundee/Paul Hogan (which I am not) fan, so he picked it up for me once. I did watch it, and it sucked. |
that's funny, the minute i read your thread title i though "oh, that'd have to be bounce!" i bought it blind and it was just awful. also my b/f's copy of bumfights.

There are three DVDs that I would NEVER have in my collection...but unfortunately they are there because my wife wanted them:
The Matrix Moulin Rouge! American Beauty |
Oh, but I guess the proper answer would be "Glitter" (I haven't watched it yet, but I have to see just how bad it really is!)
|
Crossroads but Britney is hot :)
Also, my friend has all 4 Bloodsport movies now. I bought him 3 and 4, and he recently picked up 2 to round out his collection. I envision a night of Bloodsport in the near future :D |
its a tie between lost in space and batman and robin. both came for free with my DVD player back in the day. I watched batman and robin for about 20 minutes before wanting to shove a rusty ice-pick into my scrotum. so i guess thats the tie breaker as i have yet to put lost in space into my player. its actually been on my shelf for about 3 years without getting opened.

Get Carter - the Stallone version.
|
That distinction would have to belong to the Blair Witch Project. I still can't believe that corn-studded turd of a 'movie' made over 100 million. *Sigh*
My wife knew how much I hated the movie and picked up the disc at Blockbuster used, as a 'gift' Every once and a while, I pop it in the player just to remind myself that America is truly the greatest country in the world, an one where a couple of guys can release their home videos on an unsuspecting public to rave reviews and boatloads of cash. |
Black Mask dubbed.
|
*thinks*
Maybe not the 100% winner, but as of recent, I think Donnie Darko sticks out simply because, it's not bad, but with the hype it got on this board I was expecting a great movie. So when I grab a DVD to put on in the background I look over my shelf, see it and roll my eyes. Sparkle Motion rocked though. ;) |
I would have to say Blair Witch 2, it was free so I kept it. Only watched it once for the commentary. At least I dont have Battlefield Earth :D
|
*shrug* I actually enjoyed Blair Witch and Blair Witch 2 a lot. There's a whole lot worse horror out there than those two films.
|
Worst dvd quality is definitely Fists of Fury & The Chinese Connection: Collector's Edition.
Worst movie wise is most likely Stepmom or Lost in Space. Both came free with my player. |
True Romance and xXx which I am selling this week. I also despise Reservoir Dogs, but I won't be selling it, it's my bros.
|
None.
If the film holds no replay value, it goes to eBay... But, for the sake of the thread, The Ring was the last stinker that was on my shelf... Good riddance. |
The animal

Rocky V or Beverly Hills Cop III
|
Saturday Night Live: 25 Years Of Laughs
not. Too long, too chopped. |

Pearl Harbor. My dad gave it to me as a gift. I've seen pornos with better dialogue.
|
Charlie's Angels (the movie) - Geez, how that sucked
Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood - crapola, rip-off of the estrogen-laced nostalgia of Steel Magnolias (which I can tolerate) - I can't get rid of it, it was a gift for my wife. I actually kinda like Lost in Space, considering it was a freebie. |
Just WHAT was I thinking when I bought this??????? |
Life or Something Like It
Sweet Home Alabama My Big Fat Greek Wedding Fear Dot Com I'm proud to say my wife purchased all four. :D |
My girlfriend once tried to consolidate our collections, but I had to put a stop to that. As for the worst DVD on my shelf, I think it's the guilty pleasure "Dude, Where's My Car", but that may just be the worst movie. As for the worst DVD, I don't know.
BTW, had our collections merged we would have gained the Godfather Collection, but I would also have every season of Sex in the City, as well as the Reese Witherspoon collection...if we get married, they may go on the same shelf, but I don't think we'll be able to combine them...but that's just me... |
Something from either my wife or daughter's collections: Maybe
Milo's Return or Ya-Ya Sisterhood Definately nothing I bought for myself. ;) |
U-571 and all of 'her' girlie flicks (Legally Blonde, Man on the Moon, ect.)
|
For me it would be The Young Master, a Jackie Chan movie I got for $4.99 from Wal-mart several years ago. The video and sound are barely VHS quality. (What can I say? It was cheap and I was curious about the much mentioned HK movies.)
I can't sell it because it is worthless. And I can't give it away because I don't know anyone who would take it. So, on my shelf it sits. |
Tarantino,
Could I ask why you consider Man on the Moon a girlie flick? (unless you're NOT talking about the Jim Carrey film). THanks. |
The Mexican.
|
"Latoya Jacksons Private Tour"...or something like that. A friend gave it to me as a gag gift at Xmas a couple of years ago, and now whenever he comes over, he checks to make sure I haven't sold it. Don't get me wrong, I don't object to naked girls, but the "girls" on this disc are absolute hags. Yech. Well, at least Latoya isn't naked in it...

It would either be "Ali vs Berbeck: Drama in the Bahama" or "Iron Chef USA."
|
The Smokers and Simpatico hands down.
|
Damn, you people are pissy sometimes.
|
I have the four disc Pearl Harbor DVD a family member gave to me since I took her to go watch it when it first came out at the theater. Another should be Baby Boy with Tyrese. So bad it is funny to watch.
|
probably the osbournes season 1 set. my girlfriend hasn't had cable in forever so she bought it when it came out. i, on the other hand, had cable the whole 1st season and saw them all repeatedly until it just isn't funny anymore.
|
While I own Fair Game and Crossroads, it's more a matter of inspiration than actual film viewing.
And I do own Rambo III and Billy Jack, they were both just 5 bucks at Wal-Mart, so who can pass them up? My worst period has got to be the old school horror film "Pieces". I'd just seen it on the big screen(recently in the last 2 years) and I did'nt like it, but I saw it for under 10 bucks, and I wanted to falsely inflate my DVD collection so I bought it. My worst value has got to be Pearl Harbor. It was actually the 2nd DVD I ever got, as a gift from my brother. I did enjoy the theatrical release, but it's defiately a theatre experience, and I didn't find it to be good manners or karma to sell a gift, but it sits, unwatched or unexplored, since the Christmas of it's orginal release(2000 or so?) And there is no desire to watch it. |
how about the Chuck Norris classic Top Dog? I paid $5 for it at Wal-mart........they ripped me off :(
