Yep. Season 5 only had 20 episodes because of this. Season 6 went back up to 22.

It was produced between Seasons 4 and 5 but it actually takes place between Seasons 5 and 6. There are a few episodes in Season 5 that are low on Mulder and/or Scully involvement because David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson had to go back and do reshoots. "The Unusual Suspects" and "Travelers," for example, featured the Lone Gunmen and Arthur Dales, respectively, instead of Mulder (well, he did make a small appearance in each episode) & Scully.

What was with Arthur Dales(older) being played by a different actor the second time he was on? The other one was the one about the baseball lovin' alien.

Darren McGavin shot some scenes in "The Unnatural" but became ill before he could finish them all. They had to replace him with M. Emmitt Walsh, and the script was tweaked to make the Arthur Dales featured in "The Unnatural" the brother of the Arthur Dales featured in "Travelers" and "Agua Mala". The whole idea of brothers having the same name would be unbelievable to me if I didn't actually know someone who had the same name as their brother.

Rather than strain the servers with another post in R&R, I'll ask here. I haven't seen this since the theaters, and I'm hot and cold on x-files. I'll watch the heck out of on FX, then I won't watch it for ages. So I don't want to invest in the season sets. Since this has been price dropped to 12.99 at some of the Best Buys around here, how well does this stand up as just a movie? I know most of the mythology of the show, so it's not a blind buy, but I just haven't seen it in ages.
thanks

As a stand alone movie, it makes an effort persuade the viewer to watch the other mythology episodes and figure out how the movie fits into the whole conspiracy.
