Winged migration.....how much dialog?
I did not see the movie but I am considering getting the R2 dvd....the French dvd however does not have English subs...are they needed? From what I saw in the trailer there was only music score provided. For those that have seen it...are subs needed or is it just a music score that supplies the camera work?
The region 1 (US) DVD will not come any time soon but the DVD details should be announced shortly *keep an eye on Mao's list.
Here's the set by the way (DTS according to Fanatics is amazing):

Take a look at this 2 disc edition from Québec (Region 1):
http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASI...279744-3706740
.. same packaging as the R2. No subs (well i'm not sure) but with a dubbed version (for the voice over commentary). The first disc is in french 5.1 or 2.0 (no DTS and no audio commentary but with a exclusive interview with director). The second disc is in english 2.0.
There is some voice over commentary in this movie.

There's narration. I think Jacques Perrin recorded two different versions--one in French and one in English--and obviously the French disc only has the French version.
I'd definitely suggest seeing it in the theater first. Not only because of the fact that it will lose much of its impact on the small screen, but also because audiences seem pretty mixed in their opinions.

Thank's for the bits of info.
Scorsese....I have a question for you....I gather this is a 2 dvdset R1...now the first disc has the movie with the French audio tracks/5.1 and 2.0....then am I to assume that the second disc also has the film but only in English 2.0? That would make sense since it is released in Canada. (This is not the split up of the French disc though....I wish Amazon.ca had more info on the specs). Will you elaborate......
Also, I would like to know how massive is the dialog...on IMDB people seem to indicate that there are no more than 10min. of dialog in the begining....is this really the case?
Sartana.....I would buy the disc because of the sountrack and camera work....thank you for your note, I appreciate it.
