Seinfeld on DVD

For the first time ever, this isn't a speculative thread!

In this week's Video Business magazine:

VIDBITS
Seinfeld prepping Seinfeld

The Seinfeld TV series is finally being prepared for a DVD release, according to co-creator/star Jerry Seinfeld. In the May issue of VB sister publication DVD Exclusive (formerly DVD Premiers), Seinfeld says he is helping to create interviews and commentaries and dig up the annual season-ending gag reels that could be included as extras. Seinfeld will be on The Tonight Show Starring Jay Leno, On the Record With Bob Costas, and Live With Regis and Kelly May 14-19 to promote the Miramax DVD of his theatrical documentary Comedian, which he produced and loaded with extras. He said the decision and timing of the Seinfeld series on DVD is in the hands of Columbia parent Sony Pictures, which owns distribution rights. Sources at Sony and CTHE said it's not a question of if it will come out, but when.
So there you go. No definite details yet, but this is the best we've heard so far.

Awesome. The 1st season was really short so hopefully the first set will be Seasons 1-2, or 1-3.

The show didn't really get "funny" till around Season 3.

[Seinfeld thread auto-response]Damn newbies gotta run a search and use question marks...

Thanks for the info, jough! Great news!

If the price is right, I'll buy. It's a fantastic show, one of the funniest. But it's ubiquitous on late night TV, and there are a few other shows slated for the rest of the year that aren't rerun on as much or at convenient times.

Still, good to hear that it IS coming and with supplements too.

Seinfeld says he is helping to create interviews and commentaries
COMMENTARIES!!!!!

Oh, sweet fancy Moses! Seinfeld commentaries. Perhaps for each episode?

Oh, happy happy day!

I doubt it'll be out in 2003 - if they're working on finding materials now and the studio hasn't announced anything yet, it could be a big 2004 release.

The question now is how fast they'll release this, whether it'll be seasons at a time (it probably will be) and how much in the way of extras will be available.

If the sets are anything like the recent Star Trek releases, that'd be fine by me. I'd buy every season of Seinfeld.

more importantly that price is how long between seasons. if its gunna be a simpsons sort of deal, i wont buy. im not waiting a year between seasons (its the main reason i havent bought simpsons season sets), because i have a collectors mentality.

but i want this tv series on dvd more than any other show (cept perfect strangers which will never released i bet). the extras sound great.

Season 0 = Pilot
Season 1 = 4 Episodes
Season 2 = 12 Episodes

every other season after 2 that had the 22+ episodes.

But I will be collecting all the seinfelds.

The summer of george is coming!
