As I recall some stores near me were giving away free sample sizes of hair gel to promote There's Something About Mary.

I bet that people who didn't see the film thought it was definately the wierdest tie-in of all time!

The best thing to come out of Van Sant's Psycho has to be the blood-spattered shower curtains they gave away as promotions. But, of course, they had to ruin it by plastering an enormous logo alongside the blood, so the effect was lost.

Also, I forget what movie I was seeing, but a year or so ago, I was handed a promotional tube of Chapstick...for The Dead Zone television series. I guess it kind of makes sense - dead skin and all - but in all the wrong ways. If I'm suffering from chapped lips, the last thing I want to do is smear them with something labelled "the dead zone."
