TV Shows on DVD announces: Dick Van Dyke Season 1 in September

DVD Talk Limited Edition
D. Van Dyke is being released by Image.
24 was released by FOX.
The various Star Trek series are released by Paramount.
Comparing those 3 is like comparing apples, oranges, and grapes. Different studios/distributors have different pricing practices.
As for DVD being priced > 24, Image only licenses the series from another company/person, which costs money. Obviously, that cost is going to be passed onto the consumer through a higher MSRP than they would otherwise put on it. FOX doesn't have to pay those licensing fees for 24 which is one factor that is indicative of the lower MSRP.

I started reading this thread with the thought of, "That's cool they're releasing this, but I probably won't buy it". By the time I got to the end, I had changed my mind. Sounds like a great set, and DVanD is definitely one of the funniest shows, ever.

Sounds like a good set. My only complaint (and i'm gonna get flamed for this) is that it would be nice if they released a colorized verion of this set. I know most people prefer the original b&w, but I would love to see this show and many others in color. I know that i'm in the minority here, but that's just my opinion.

I'm not trying to flame you or nothin', I'm just curious. Are you one of those people who can sleep better at night now that Greedo shoots first?

^I know that the colorization process is not perfect, but it still looks more realistic than black and white. And since colorization has been around for at least 15 years, hopefully they have improved it somewhat. I guess growing up with a b & w television I always loved it when I went to a friends house and watched tv in color. I just can't see why anyone would prefer b&w over color. I am all for preserving the original tv/movie ect (I always buy widescreen dvd's when they are available), but when it comes to b&w I just don't care for it. I know that the director's of b&w shows/movies had to do certain things with shaddows etc. to make it work, but i'm sure most of them would have preferred to film in color if thier budgets would have allowed them to. Just my 2 cents.

"... colorized ... "
Anyway. I can not wait for these sets. The extras are amazing to say the least. I haven't watched the DVD Show in a few years and the wait is now killing me

But, once again (like Star Trek), "24" is an hour-long show. So, in general, those hour-long shows SHOULD cost twice the price of the 30-minute programs. Based strictly on # of minutes included, that is.
You're getting twice the programming on the "24" set vs. Dick Van Dyke, but I note where "24" is now MSRP'ed @ only $59.98, ten clams LESS than TDVDS, illustrating my point of V.Dyke being priced in the upper stratosphere for such 30-minute episode TV products.
