Oh god, this has been debated endlessly already. Basically there are some people who believe it is an unneccesary release (like me) others think they need to own it. Basically, to me, this release sounds like a gigantic promo for Microsoft and Windows Media players.
And no DTS!
And no DTS!

The video quality only makes a difference to me if I notice it. I don't watch DVD's with a critical eye towards the transfer and I have no complaints about the UE's quality. Looks to me just as good on the UE as it looked in theaters (if not better).

Yes video quality to me is important. But also very important to me is the ability to watch the theatrical and special edition anytime I want, without having to resort to my computer (and especially Windows Media Player, which blows goats in my mind).

I understand wanting to have the theatrical version. For myself, I like the extended version better and that is all I watched. Having a 61" TV and being obsessed with video quality, I look forward to the Extreme Edition. Hopefully, we'll see reviews soon.

So far the WM9 demo clips I have viewed equal the video quality I receive via OTA HD broadcasts, both of which exceed the quality of DVD. It certainly seems that Microsoft's WM9 codec is a viable way to get HD-DVD's in my hand now, while we wait for BluRay standards to be sorted out.
I suspect that before long somebody will come out with a STB DVD player that can handle the WM9 HD DVDs...

Just got this from another thread:
Interesting...that last part. Says nothing about the regular DVD version being remastered.
From a technical standpoint, the HD WMV 9 version of T2 should be impressive, unlocking visual details that are impossible to see in the low-resolution standard DVD version. Also, thanks to the disc's 5.1-channel Windows Media Audio (WMA) 9 surround sound, this version will also feature a stunning, thumping soundtrack and sound effects. Artisan has completely digitally remastered the Windows Media version of the film, frame by frame, Microsoft says.

Well I'll be buying it, I don't own the UE, as I didn't really enjoy the documentaries much. But the documentaries on this DVD seem far more interesting, and the James Cameron comentary is a welcome. I'm no home-theatre fanatic, so no DTS doesn't really mean much to me, so count me in.

So, hopefully they lock the door so the guy who remastered the UE version is kept out, we should have a stellar transfer.

Since artisan is known for drasticly changing transfers for better or worse (reservior dogs anyone, I personally like it better then the non anamorphic), what if they got rid of the blue tint, and made everything regular colors.

I think the original post that quotes Video Business is incorrect.
Standing in the Shadows of Motown is 2x DVD resolution
T2 Extreme is at least 3.5x DVD resolution....though I believe they are being conservative. It has been encoded into WM9 at 1920x1080 from the D5 of a new transfer
