Well I had both the first time, but since I got the EE, I never watched the TC anymore...
And since I have the screener on DVD (looks quite OK to me)...it will make me hold on until the EE...
Does anyone have a clue what will be the gift set?...
cos' last year, my parents wanted to get it for me for x-mass, but since I had it, they got me something else...I told them that they could get me TTT one if it's a good one...
If not, I will ask them to get me "Alien Quadrilogy"...

I havent' read anything about the gift set. But the FOTR gift set had (paraphrased from LOTR.net):
*a new version of the acclaimed National Geographic DVD on the making of The Fellowship of the Rings
*a gorgeous set of polystone Pillars of Argonath bookends from Sideshow and Weta
*exclusive Lord of the Rings trading cards
*wide-screen four-disc DVD set that includes 30 minutes of extra footage
*new music by Howard Shore
* cast commentaries
*special on adapting the book
*Weta Workshop visit
*"From Vision to Reality" feature
*208 minutes in length
What do you think we might get with TTT?

Ill be getting the EE the day it comes out at Walmart (hopefully along with a ticket for RotK)... blind purchase. The EE of FotR was so fantastic that I have faith in Jackson and his team when it comes to recutting the film. I really liked SB as Boromir, so it will be cool to see him again in the flashback sequence in TT:EE... and even a little more Gimli would be worth the wait for the EE... he rules!

Extended all the way. I thought it might be overlong (the EE for Fellowship) but it was excellent and considering that you are watching at home, you can take breaks.

Like so many others, I have both the Theatrical and Extended Edition of The Fellowship of the Ring, since I test-drove a Kia (actually I just showed-up at the dealership) for the free Theatrical edition DVD. I then purchased the EE later, and actually, I considered dumping my Theatrical Edition of LOTR, but I decided to keep it, mainly for the Enya video, which is not on the EE.
Unless someone has a similar promo this time around, I will only get the EE of The Two Towers.

Ain't It Cool reviewed the Extended Edition and reveals a lot more of the extra scenes.
Very, very cool: http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=15741

Both theatrical and EE editions - in fact both of them are already pre-ordered. I too have the screener, but I'll throw that in the garbage when I get the real one, I hate the "For your consideration" which shows up all over the place.
Don't mind buying both when a director tells us right from the start that there are going to be 2 versions, but hate it when they keep it a secret and force you into buying the first release because they make you THINK it's going to be THE ONLY ONE!

Due to all the rave reviews, I FINALLY bought the EE of FOTR and sold off my theatrical copy. Watched it last night, and it really is better with lots of subtle details. This time around I'm just getting the EE of the Two Towers, and I'm really excited about seeing Return of the King. Unlike many teenage boys, I did not read the books so I really don't know how it all ends up.
This is almost as bad as waiting 3 years to see what happened to Han Solo after Empire Strikes Back came out.

I feel like this is worse!
I got both versions last time and will do the same this time. i'll preorder the EE, but will probably get the theatrical through a discount deal, like the blockbuster promotion.

Got the FOTR:EE last week. Wow. So much better of a movie.
My opinion of FOTR went from "meh" to "Holy crap!"
Just goes to show you that better pacing makes a better movie.
That said I'm definitely getting TTT:EE. My dad equally fell in love with the EE over the theatrical.
