Wicker Man- director's cut on 7/22/03 ?????

Last year I heard that Anchor Bay was going to remaster and rerelease the extended (director's cut) version of Wicker Man on dvd in 2003. According to Mikko's link, the tentative date for Wicker man is 07/22/2003. I checked yahoo and Anchor Bay websites, but I couldn't find any info about Wicker Man being released. Does anyone have any information?

The theatrical cut of Wicker man is very good, but I heard the longer version is even better.

The director's cut is already released - in a LE wooden box. Maybe Anchor Bay is simply re-releasing the director's cut as a non-LE DVD...

It is my understanding that Anchor Bay is releasing the LE footage with the missing footage woven back into the movie. The missing footage was available as a deleted scene on the previous release.

Anchor Bay releasing a movie that it's already milked fans for by saying "You have to buy it in the LIMITED edition"? Say it isn't so!

That's not true. The missing footage is much more than just one deleted scene and it's all been reinserted in the extended cut of the film. It was never presented as an isolated extra. I still see the wooden box on Best Buy shelves, so it isn't really hard to find.

It was also listed at Fangoria's site as coming out in July, but has since been taken down. There's also no sign of it on AB's website.

Presumably, AB will release the DC of "Wicker Man," as they've released all of their LE DCs -- Army of Darkness, Halloween, Manhunter. Hopefully, they'll include the commentary that was on the UK DC DVD.

You mean as a single disc release? That's probably a safe bet, but I haven't heard anything concrete either.

the wicker man in the wooden box is now 19.99 at best buy, as mentioned previously. i was actually planning to pick it up this weekend but now i dont know. i would hate to buy it and have the new version contain the directors commentary from the UK disc.

i am assuming theyre just releasing the second disc, the longer version outside of the box, but i will hold off on buying this until i know, thanks for the heads up.

Ordered the wooden box LE last night from Best Buy for $19.99 & free shipping! Glad I didn't buy this earlier this year for $29.99!

For people with region-free players, the UK Region 2 edition includes an audio commentary.

And, yes, I've always assumed that the upcoming Anchor Bay "Director's Cut" release was just a re-release of disc #2 from the wooden box. Seems to be their pattern (Army of Darkness, Halloween, etc.)

I believe one the one disc version released that it is a deleted scenes extra.

I have both versions but have never opened my little pine box. Sorry for the confusion.

Not many films that pop into my mind deal with the same questions of morality and faith as The Wicker Man does. It is a true crime many people I talk to about film have not seen this film.

too true. what i like about the wicker man is that at the end of the flick the premise changes from that of this weird cult to a modern day tale of a saint. i'm not religious at all, but i really liked that idea.

just to update this thread,

i talked to the Anchor Bay representative at the Pittsburgh Comicon on saturday and he said there are no plans to re-release The Wicker Man either with the UK commentary or just repackaging the extended edition outside of the box. he said there was a plan to do that but they decided not to because there is just too much wicker man product all there right now.

Is there a keepcase within the wooden box, or are the discs floating around in envelopes?

But there are two insert cards with different poster art, so you can just slip those in the outer sleeve of a blank keepcase in place of cover art. That is if you want to ditch the wooden box.
