Just thought i'd answer before i suspect that the moderators will close this thread (probably not DVD specific enough for their liking
)
I have in the past left a note for the delivery man to contact my neighbours for a signature when i've known that the package was being sent recorded delivery..and he did oblige by leaving the package with my neighbour (Based on UK Postal system experience)

I've rarely ordered by internet before and was wondering what kind of package requires a signature? This is because I once ordered some books from amazon and a few of them dint need signatures.

From: You have moved into a dark place. It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.
If you know how it'll be sent (UPS, USPS, FedEx) you can prepare a signature card to leave for the delivery man. Then they can keep that on file for you. Check the companies' respective web sites for info on how they approach signatures.
And I guess this thread is *kinda* DVD related, considering how many of us buy the majority of our discs online...
