DVD Talk Platinum Edition
From the FAQ at the official DTS website:
"8. What is 96/24?
More recording is being done at a 96kHz sampling rate and at 24 bits. DTS has always had 24-bit capability, and DTS 96/24 adds the 96kHz capability. It is fully compatible with existing DTS decoders, which will output 96/24 tracks at 48kHz. DTS 96/24 is the only system that:
* provides 5.1 channels of 96/24 along with full-motion video on DVD-Video and DVD-Audio (video zone),
* is compatible with all DVD-Video players, and
* is accessible through the digital output."

Not ALL DTS discs are 96/24 (in fact no movie DVD has this). It's really DTS's answer to Sony SACD. DTS 96/24 is AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT THING. It just happens to have DTS in its name. It requires a different kind of DVD player and everything. It is backward compatible w/ current DTS 5.1 decoding.
Name 1 DTS DVD with a 48/24 track. Can't? Because there aren't any. Lol. What makes this doubly sad is the 96/24 DVDs could easily have a standard 48/24 track, but they don't.
My guess is HD-DVD will end up either having DTS 96/24 or the Dolby 96/24 equivalent (when they invent one). I'd rather have MLP or some other lossless audio, but DTS 96/24 ain't bad- certainly one step ahead of what we have now.

Especially in movies.
