I was really hyped up about seeing this becuase, you know its Sly but the movie wasnt really good. Its not exactly the movie i thought it would be. It was really slow paced with alot of dialogue. Even tho Sly kicked a$$ he didnt kick alot of a$$. To me the plot and story were weak and its not exactly the movie Sly should of came back with. Over all if you still want to find out for yourself rent it b4 you buy it, if your a Sly fan then i guess you aint got any other choice but to buy it.

I was actually pleasantly surprised by this movie. It's nothing more than a pretty straight forward revenge movie, and it's not as dark as the original. I was more impressed with it visually than with the story. The cinematography and editing were very impressive for an action movie. Stallone, Mickey Rourke, and Michael Caine all give performances superior to what you see in a lot of this type of movie.

I rented it, watched the first hour, and then turned it off. That is very unusal for me, but I was falling asleep. I really didn't care what was happening, or what was going to happen. Definately not one of Sly's better efforts.

I submitted a review of the DVD at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews.html -- I'd post the direct link, but things seem to be down...

I really like this movies style. While it doesn't have the most action or the best plot I think that the combination of style, clever one liners and the presence of a story makes this DVD a winner.
The picture quality is top notch and the sound is good too.
I can understand people not liking this movie too much, but it hits a balance with me by having music I really like, funny one liners and situations, and a nice cinematic style.
I also enjoy watching scum bags getting what's coming to them to the sound of christmas music =)

I dunno, I really thought the Stallone "Get Carter" is one of the worst films I've seen in a while...Stallone is embarrassed looking, he hasn't aged well, they've taken a gritty modern noir (the Caine original) and Hollywood-ed it up in all the typical and laughable ways (making him much more "likeable," with the *sniff sniff* "touching" scenes with him and the girl and the ludicrous ending), and to me the direction isn't "stylish" -- it's incoherent, a man who had no clue how to make a movie so he shook the camera around a lot and did weird (amateur hour) cuts...the one liners are cold 80's leftovers (My name is Carter and you don't want to meet me??? -- who talks like that???) and the film has no pacing, no logic (the scene at the party near the end where bad things happen and people keep dancing and partying) and absolutely no redeemable qualities...gee, I sound hostile, don't I? The new "Get Carter" is the pits -- obviously some others disagree, but I figured in case you buy it and hate it, you won't feel alone!

I disliked the film. It couldn't decide if it wanted to be a character drama or a flashy action flick, so it failed in both regards. The DVD looks and sounds great, though.

Watched it last night. I had a feeling it wouldn't be good, but I have a thing for Sly (mainly because he doesn't make much movies anymore). Anyway, I was disappointed. It was hard to keep an interest and the plot was only so-so. It did try to have a unique style, but it just didn't come together.

I rented it last night and thought it was great. I think if this movie would have starred anyone but Stallone, it would have done well... I think everyone's got preconceived notions of what to expect from his movies and this was a big departure. It definately wasn't an action flick, more along the lines of a Chinatown. I rented it thinking it would suck and I was suprised... Oh well, to each his own...

Definitely check out the original - good dvd, too, with an excellent commentary from director and the always informative and interesting Michael Caine.

Whats the picture/sound quality of the original film like ?
I saw it on vhs a while back and thought the movie was great and maybe worth a purchase on DVD.
I havent got around to seeing the remake yet, maybe its worth a rent.....
