I liked the movie a WHOLE lot more than Mission to Mars, but I don't know if its worth a purchase. However, the MSRP is only $19.99 (I think), so it should be pretty cheap. I might just wait until it becomes available at Columbia House and use it as a fulfillment purchase.

I actually liked it much more than mission to mars. I thought the trailers for the film were misleading, and I didn't really have any idea of what it was about. If you get a good deal, then I'd get it.

I quite liked it despite the stupid attempt to raise the questions about the higher powers etc. Why does about every sci-fi movie have to try to be so intelligent? Couldn't they cope without mentioning God?

Also the life forms on Mars were quite ridiculous Nevertheless, it was quite fun.

One of the worst films I have seen in recent memory. I went to the premiere in Los Angeles and you could see the film evaporate from the audience's memory even as they left the theatre. There's absolutely nothing memorable or distinctive about it.

I think Red Planet is EVEN WORSE than Mission To Mars. The silly robot. The silly life forms. Ugh!

The trailer was really bad, but then again, Red Planet is not the kind of movie that presents itself well in the typical snappy action trailer with 2-second jump-cuts.

The one thing I really enjoyed was its slow, luxuriant visuals. You are always able to take in everything on the screen before the scene shifts. None of that Bruckheimer freneticism is present. Pacing isn't all that bad either, considering the relative lack of a plot.

Red Planet NO!!!!!!

Mission to Mars or Red Planet extremely poor sci-fi.

Red Planet really ticked me off.

1. They are going to the MARS because years prior unmanned ships were sent to spread a form of algae to create Oxygen thus making the plant suitable for humans. This was done because pollution on earth (ozone layer) has made earth unlivable. HELLO IF YOU CAN MAKE MARS GREEN AND FULL OF LIFE SUITABLE FOR HUMANS>>>FIX EARTH!!!

2. When landing, the craft is hit by a solar flare. Come on!

I give them this...some of the special effects were okay. I especially liked the maps. That's it!

Let this one collect dust on the shelf..it stinks.

That's an interesting note, although I'm sure the Mars atmosphere would be an extremely different situation than Earth's.

What make sci-fi enjoyable for me is the believability and the likelihood that the fiction could be possible base on science fact. The story would have been much more enjoyable to watch had they been going to Mars to colonize the planet due to the over population of Earth, then possibly a futuristic revolution from earth mirroring that of the American Independence from Great Britain. End it with a major battle in space, spies, and a huge YES to the question will there be a sequel.

Always best to first rent out a film your unsure about.

Works out a lot cheaper that way, and you're also not left with a shelf full of s**t films

I dont know whats worse Mission to Mars or Red Planet. I was quite disappointed with both these movies. Red Planet was a poor mix of Mission to Mars, Pitch Black and Virus. The only elements in Red Planet that I fairly enjoyed were the special effects and Val Kilmer's oneliners. I wouldnt consider this movies worth owning.
