i liked this movie a great deal when i saw it during its theatrical run (it premiered on a theatre on my block ). if you like prison films, odds are that you'll like it. i'd put it up there in the realm of The Shawshank Redemption; it's not quite that good, but it's in the same ballpark. it's got some surprisingly good performances from Edward Furlong and Mickey Rourke, and Willem Dafoes gives his usual outstanding performance. it's at least worth a rent. anyone know if the DVD has any interesting features? Amazon doesn't list any, but i thought i had read a while back that there would be at least a commentary.

I liked it, not the best movie I have ever seen, but worth watching. Convicts are human too, but some with more or less mental disorders.

I haven't listened to the commentary track yet, but it's done by the films two producers, Danny Trejo & Edward Bunker, who besides also acting in the film are also both ex-convicts. I'm sure it's a good commentary.

Excellent film.....very surprised at this...got to see it kind of by accident & was really impressed with Steve (the weasle) Bucsemi's (sp?)direction. A good job after his little seen Tres Lounge.

Again, since a few of the actors and producers on this film were actually incarcerated in the past you can be sure of the accuracy of day to day life in jail. Defoe is brilliant, Furlong , who I thing is kind of average and 1 dimensional, was pretty good too. Two surprise cameos that are very freaky/skievy to watch for.

Unfortunatly, I saw this on VHS (gasp!) at a friends house so I'm not sure what the DVD is like , but I give it high marks as one of those great little smouldering films that not too many people get to see.

enjoy.

I saw this last night. I enjoyed but was pissed off that
Willem Dafoe's charachter missed out on escaping
Great story about a 21 year old going to prison for dealing drugs (played by Edward Furlong). Willem Dafoe plays a convict that's been in the prison for 18 years, he is well connected and takes Furlong under his wing, not wanting him to turn out like the rest of 'em (as least it seems that way). Overall it's good flick, great directing by Steve Buscemi, at least worth a rental.

I enjoyed it as well but would list it as a rental..not a keeper. From what I had read previously I thought it was going to be a bit more like Oz on HBO, but it wasn't that graphic, BUT it was more realistic.

All the perfomances were great! Check out Mickey Rourke as a hagard old transvestite!!
And Tom Arnold as a perv!!!

I just listened to it this morning and personally I found it kind of dull They had some good stories and insights but a lot of times they were just making odd comments about what was going on on the screen at the moment. What I mean is explaining things that were perfectly obvious... As others have mentioned though, if you like prison movies you'll like it. I think it is probably one of the best, if not the best, to realistically present life in the "big house".

I really enjoyed Animal Farm. Edward Furlong and William Dafoe both did a good job. It is definatley worth a rent, especially if you enjoy prison movies.
