This film, the third dogme release from Denmark, is an entertaining dramedy. The dvd contains the director's audio commentary which sheds some light on the dogme way of film-making. At various points he calls the dogme rules ridiculous and silly, but he abided by them and it is interesting to hear how he dealt with the self-imposed restrictions. MINOR SPOILER: My favorite part of the commentary is where the director,Kragh-Jacobsen,tells the difference between a french film and a danish film. "If it was a french film, he would have drowned. This is a dansish film,so he didn't drown." I love it. Kragh-Jacobsen's previous film, The Island on Bird Street, is a very moving war-time drama featuring an amazing performance by a child actor. I'm hoping this finds dvd release before too long.
