I have never seen either one of these movies and of course am intrigued by all the positive past reviews....But does the dubbing get annoying??...I have never really enjoyed watching a dubbed movie and want to see what you guys have to say.

The ones I have are subtitled. I have the Criterion Hard Boiled and the Universe Killer. Both are awesome. The Killer is probably a better film, but the action scenes in Hard Boiled are rivaled by none.

I have both Criterion versions of Hardboiled and The Killer. Only Hardboiled contains an optional english language track. Both contain the original language track with optional(removeable) English subtitles.
While I prefer watching both movies w/ subtitles. I 've watched Hardboiled dubbed(I know)it's a serviceable dubbed - moves the story along and doesn't distract the viewer.

IMHO, the potentially GREATEST aspect of either release is not a new Woo commentary or even a better transfer (though those rank up there), but a kick-ass, wall-rumbling 5.1 Dolby Digital track. These are movies which SCREAM for a bass heavy, immersive surround sound makeover. There are sooo many opportunities in both films to do some great work. Heck, Hard-Boiled has well over 50 minutes of action scenes!
I hope they do a good job. I don't really care if the 5.1 track is dubbed - I've seen the original films so many times I'm not really going to pay attention to the dialogue. If having to incorporate the original dialogue in ANY way compromises their ability to do a great 5.1 track, then please just put the original sound on an alternate track and build the 5.1 track from scratch!

Yea, a 5.1 ch mix would definitely be a great addition. Hopefully Winstar(fox lober)5.1 mix will be better than the lackluster 5.1 universe versions.

The Mei Ah HK release of The Killer (which I have) has a nice 5.1 track...
I am even thinking of trading my HB:CC and trading down to the new 5.1 release. (I know all those purists will call me nuts, but I am seriously thinking about it)
