I must say I have always gotten excited when I can make easy money. So I had something in common with the main character in Boiler Room, which might be one of the reasons that I liked it so much. It's about a young man who goes from running an underground casino in his apartment to being a fast-talking, quick-witted stock broker. The whole telemarketing thing is very interesting to me. I often wondered just what exactly those people on the other end of the phone are really thinking, and this movie shows us.
Giovani Ribisi is great as usual as is Vin Diesel and Ben Afleck (who actually has a very small part despite what the trailers make you think). The overall story was very original and it kept me interested the whole way through. I do think that the ending could have shown a little more closure, but it still worked pretty well. The DVD contains an alternate ending which I think some people will like better. As for myself, I prefer the ending as it is over the original.
My rating - 9/10

Great movie as mentioned above Terrific acting from the entire cast. I rented this movie last night and today im going to buy the DVD and the CD soundtrack. The video transfer was great and the .1 channel will get a workout with the Hip Hop soundtrack.

I didn't like it as much as Caiman, but I agree with many of his points. Overall I thought it was a good movie, but a bit slow at times. I actually didn't care for the love interest sub plot of the movie. I thought it was a distraction more than anything. They should have focused more on his friendship with Diesel and his relationship with the rest of his coworkers. I agree that the ending made me feel like something was missing. I'm not sure if I like the alternative ending better, but it seemed to have a better feel -- especially with its ironic twist and humor, but made you lose sympathy for that Harry guy.
Anyways, I'd give it a 7/10 and would probably buy it if I saw it cheap ($10).

Boiler Room is definately worth a rental. The acting was excellent all around, but I must agree that the romantic subplot came off as odd. Being a stock guy and a car guy, this movie has a lot of appeal. No, it's no Wall Street or Glengarry-Glen Ross, but it's a fun movie. The DVD looks and sounds pretty good too, but I found the hip-hop "score" annoying. The only special feature I watched on the DVD was the alternate ending which I liked better than the theatrical one.
