I was able to take an early look at this special edition DVD today and was pleased with the image/sound quality, but not quite as pleased with some of the special edition content.

The image quality is particularly strong, with sharp, clear images and solid, bold colors. What I didn't care for on this disc was the commentary. Director Simon West sounds a lot like he's reading off something he's written before sitting down for the commentary. That's fine, but what's not fine is how many pauses between discussion this commentary contains. When he does speak, he offers some interesting comments, but there are too many pauses and some are long enough to be distracting. The DVD also contains 4 deleted scenes/1 alternate ending and a 20 minute documentary.

DVDRules1 - Just want to offer my word of praise that the two reviews I've read from you were very well done. Keep up the good work, and please do continue to contribute the reviews as much as possible.

Bravo!

I can't comment on DVD quality since I haven't seen it. I can comment on the quality of the movie, however, having seen it in a theater. It is a terrible movie with no redeeming qualities.

I pretty much refuse to see anything with John Travolta in it--I loved Pulp Fiction and Get Shorty, but everything since has been crap.

I can't wait until my copy arrives in the mail next week!!!

I didn't get a chance to see it at the theater, but it's my type of movie . . . action, suspense, and Madeleine Stowe . . . YEAH BABY!!!

Truthfully, one of the worse films I have ever seen.

I was debating whether to pick this up or 'The Graduate' at a retail store with a gift certificate I was given, looks like I'll be going with the latter.

Thanks for the comments, guys.

Well if you're choosing between this movie and the Graduate, I think its a safe bet to go with the Graduate as many more people would choose that as a better movie. Nonetheless, I would rate this movie as above average. It's well done and has good acting by a good cast, including a personal favorite of mine, James Woods. The story can be a bit gruesome or disturbing to some though. I watched this movie with a large group of friends and a lot of them felt "disturbed" afterwards. Yet in the end the movie has a lot of pluses to it. As I said before, good acting is one, good dialogue, and a great overall production are here as well.

The Zizz, so you didn't like "The Thin Red Line" or "Face/Off"?

While it's not a particularly great film, there's nothing really wrong with this movie either. As the post above mine states, the acting is fine, the script is decent, the pacing is good, and it is competently directed. There's just nothing remarkable about it. The ending I thought was a bit of a letdown. But other than that, most of the people I know thought it was an "okay" film--those that didn't like it were mainly put off by the disturbing nature of its content.

El Pollo: Ok, I did like Face / Off.

The Thin Red Line was brilliant, but Travolta doesn't count--he was in the movie for about a minute, and his scene is one of the weakest in the film.

Just got my copy today and watched it for the first time. Nelson Demille is a great author. As others have said, movie was ok. The character development between John Travolta and Madeleine Stowe was very weak and very irrelevant. Glad they cut out the alternate ending as it was classic lameness.

I disagree with the masses. I saw this at the theater with my wife and both of us were very pleased with the movie. I expect my DVD any day now. Oh well, I loved The Green Mile but I've spoken to several people that hate it too (not that I'm putting these two movies in the same league or anything).

I just watched this today for the first time
and enjoyed it. The disc was very well done
with deleted scenes, alternate ending, and
directors commentary.

The commentary sounds like it was thoughtfully
written before hand and reread at key points
through the film. It's really quite
enlightening to the filmakers methods.

The movie itself was full of excellent
performances. I really liked the who done it
aspect of the film. Very entertaining.
I just rented this, but will consider buying
in the future.

The video quality is excellent. Very detailed with no grain or compression artifacts. Using component video on a 16:9 RP, this disc looks amazing!

The movie, itself, was lame.

I liked the movie. The story delivers exactly what you expect (sorry, no surprises, but that doesn't mean a bad movie), with some good acting thrown in as well. Yes, "character development" is an oxymoron, but you get some witty dialogue to (hopefully) offset that.

My wife and I just finished watching this DVD and we were both very pleased with the movie and DVD quality.

I thought the movie had a good story with some outstanding performances. It seems like they depicted the culture of the military accurately . . . "there is the right way, the wrong way, and the Army way!!!" I thought I was watching "A Few Good Men", another excellent military drama.

As for the DVD, the anamorphic transfer was excellent and the DD 5.1 was very active. It also has a ton of extras, including commentary and some deleted scenes.

my wife & i watched this movie last night & we were both pleasantly surprised. it had gotten such bad reviews that i was afraid i was going to waste my time. john travolta was effective & had some great dialogue in the film. some of the lines cracked us up.

the film moved at a quick pace & i never thought it was boring. interesting story which does not rival A Few Good Men but it still stands on its own.

i thought there was pretty good chemistry & banter between travolta & stowe.

definitely not as bad a film as i had heard.
